was reading thread here about oils. sayin 5-30 is to heavy,, and need to stick to 5-20

i have a 2000 lsv8 with 82,000 miles.

now car is filled with 5-30 from last oil change (had no 5-20 in stock) do i need to get it emptied and filled with 5-20?

or at the miles i am at, is the 5-30 ok?

any info be great,, since goin back to jiffy lube to have them look thru car, and empty oil.

5W30 is what was recommended for '00s. Lincoln changed recomendation to 5W20 sometime later to help improve MPG, NOT protection. 5W30 is a tad thicker so it'll provide more protection, especially when it gets hot (when you need it most). I'd gladly give up 0.05 MPG for a bit more protection from wear & tear on the engine. Even if you don't agree, is it worth draining perfectly good oil?

5W 30 is fine, particualrly in the summer. 20 is lighter and gives better fuel milage, but going 1 step up in the summer is nothing to worry about. I'm running 30 in my 00 V6.

Next time go back to the 20 wieght.

Also, notice in the owners manual, they usually will recommend 1 step heaver in the summer than winter, depending on prevailing temps of course. some ppls winters are lot worse than others
