5r55s torque converter

hey everyone,
Im kind of new to the game and do not own a LS as of now. But I have been reading up on almost every thread for the LS on this website so I have idea about the car as a whole.

I receieve a copy of summit's racing catalog evey month and noticed that in the 4.6l-5.0l section they have a torque converter for the 5r55s. Would this work for the LS? I've read that its the same tranny for both 05+ mustangs and 03+ LS.

Is the increase in performance worth the cost of replacement, or is something that would only be worth the $500. if your existing one goes bad.

I dont own an LS, but everyone says that the tranny is the weakist link. this t/c could probably fix that problem if it worked. then it could handle the more heavy duty add ons.

Until the SC is avalbl there arent too many mods other than nos that would cause an LS to need a trannie upgrade (to my knowledge)
 
a torque converter that has a higher stall rpm will place more risk on your trannie - since the torque converter multiples your engine torque output (until it locks up) - the higher in rmps and the closer you get to the engine's max torque (which is 4300rpm IB) the more torque you are throwing into the trannie....
 
so a higher stall t/c would be worse for the 5r55s? I know the servos are crappy but with n2o or sc, wouldn't a higher stall t/c be better? and would the tci t/c for the stang fit into the 5r55s?
 
A 3000RPM stall seems a bit high for a street car, but then I think they were refering to a 4.6 engine application which probably has a different power curve. Not sure what the stall would be with our engines, but like I said 3,000 seems a bit high for day to day driving.

High stall can be fun but also has draw backs like driving in rain and when you want gradual power application at a slow speed.

ALso remember that with more stall yopu are going to generate a lot more heat so you will need an auxilliary cooler.

I have only personally owned one high stall tranny and that was in a heavy Mopar with a big block. Maybe a lighter car like our LS with a whimpy engine will be better? I also recall members of the Impala list with high stalls who did not care for it for day to day driving. Most people prefered stalls around 2500 or less. That model car weighed about 500# more than our LS and had a good torque engine.
