Hi all,

I am looking for an idea of what could have possible went wrong.

My cad had that harsh engagement into R and D(after engaging shifted fine up till 5th), so after reading a lot about the Solenoid block issues, I decided to replace mine.
I bought used (tested) block, installed according to the manual(it was submerged in oil before installation, torqued in the correct order), then the big problems started. Car shifts even worse in reverse, when I try to shift into D , I have to wait about 30 sec to engage, after driving I found 1st to 2nd shift well, but then 2nd to 3rd it revs up and then slams into gear, 3-4 and 4-5 are just fine no slipping or anything. Car also came with P0745 error, which was not there before the change.
Next I installed back the old solenoid block, since I new car was running better, but still no change, it acts like after the first change.

Now I am trying come up with a plan. I'm wondering if i is possible pockets of air to cause this, but how should I remove those. Or maybe bad electrical connection , but the socket plugged in just fine and the nut on the top is tightened well.

Please share any ideas, as to what could have gone wrong. I disconnected the battery yesterday, sine I did not perform the reset on the PCM module. Do you think the computer could have messed up it shifting program that bad?

Are you sure you refilled to the correct level?

Well, that is one thing I was thinking too. I put about 4.5 quarts, started the car, shifted through gears and while running added 2 more, then pulled the pump and about .5 quarts leaked until it started dripping. Does this sounds right?

I also changed the filter the first time and cleaned the pan, there was no major shavings. Filter is aftermarket, hope it is not blocking the flow..

Have you tried disconnecting the battery for a good while and then reconnecting?

I disconnected it today. Will update post in case there is any improvement tomorrow.

With no change when switching between the solenoids, one might suspect the servo bore is worn out ... possibly?
What's the year of that LS and how many miles on the Transmission?

Yeah, maybe... I am also thinking of an electrical issue, maybe the harness is not contacting proprly after the change although I tighten the bolt well.
Car is 2004, 76000 miles, the transmission was replaced at 15000 per Carfax.

Any electrical issue should be picked up by the PCM and result in a check engine light and codes for the solenoids.

P0745 is the error that came up after the solenoid change. Do you think any other code should show up?

That's telling you that the pressure control solenoid in the used assembly is bad electrically. (Maybe you need to bite the bullet and buy a new one?)

Here's how to troubleshoot to see if the problem is with the solenoid assembly or with the car.

I'd try step D5 first as it is a simple test of the pressure control solenoid in the assembly, and the most likely fault is the solenoid itself.

So, after reading a lot, almost made my mind. Powered up the car, it shifts the same way. The car was in the garage, I sat, opened the door, started shifting through the gears and listened to the noises coming form underneath. Having in mind that I do not know how the solenoids work in conjunction to make the car shift(started reading the manual and got even more confused), I can definitely tell, when I shift to R - I hear "click" (like from solenoid), and car engages immediately, then when I go to D, no "click" just some hydraulic noises for 10 - 20 sec and then "click" and car slams into gear.
Now, I know this is nowhere near science and proper diagnostics, but after reading posts and other threads, I will take the chance, buy new Solenoid pack from reputable dealer and change it again. Its going to be way more expensive to go to the Tranny Shop anyway...

How did this work out for you?
