Greetings to all at LVC,

Sadly, my 97 MK VIII needs transmission work as it has begun to slip between gears. At 244,000 miles, I am not complaining. Since the tranny in my VIII needs work anyway, now would be a good time to upgrade to a newer transmission if the swap is fairly straight forward. I am thinking that a 2009 ford f150 4x2 with the 4.6 3v should be a direct fit between engine and transmission (same flywheel teeth number?) with a drive-shaft length issue and computer control issue being the biggest challenges. Has anyone successfully swapped in a newer Ford automatic 6 speed 6R80 transmission into their MK VIII? If yes, could you please provide some information. Thanks

The computer control issue would be the biggest hurdle in my opinion. It would likely require a stand-alone controller?

You may want to consider a built 4R70W with a GearVendor overdrive unit matched to a suitable differential ratio which would effectively give you 8 speeds. ;)

they make a control module, its called the PCM already in the F150. ;)

rip all the wiring and ECM and TCMs and whatever out of a wrecked F150 and go to town swapping stuff!

how hard can it be?
