Preface...The a/c started acting up. I evac'ed the system and pulled the orifice tube. It was clogged. The desicant bag in the accumulator ruptured. I flushed the system, replaced the parts and put it all back together...good cold air! Then the head gaskets let go. $4300.00 and a new engine later I'm driving but without a/c. I put a can of refridgerant in it and I could see vapor rising from the area near the evaporator. I checked all the hose connections and found the larger of the two hoses back there loose; I tightened it...easy enough but with this car no such luck. Put in another can and still the vapor.
I have a leak in the evaporator. I have replaced the usual...orifice tube, o-rings, accumulator (which is prolly toast because of the leak). I couldn't pull a vacuum after replacing the parts. So, I [ulled the hoses apart at the fitting for the evaporator, removed the orifice tube, closed the big end and applied compressed air to the little end and I can hear a leak bigger than Dallas.
So...how the hell do you replace the evaporator? The box has all kinds of "Cut here for service" markings. Are those markings for replacing the evaporator?
A little help!
