I recently got hold of a really clean 86 deville. Kept hearing a low hammering noise and found the vacuum motor up in front of the drivers front tire.Didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what it does as it's actually posted on the radiator support vacuum routing sticker under the hood.BUT--- Does anyone out there know how loud the pump should actually be?? I went to a chevy deaker and they quote "don't stock the part anymore " and none of their mechanics are familiar with the set up! NAPA has the pump but at 179.00 I hate to replace it iof noise from it is normal. It still works as my power brakes are fine ect..Any ideas about this would be appreciated!
Thanks frock52

Just disconnect it.
I did 3 or 4-years ago. It is an air pump for emissions.

I have had this car for 10 years and have 290,000 miles on it. Replaced the motor at 180,000, had a bearing rap. There are other things I can tell you about if you want to know?

I have replaced the ECM about 5-times it affects the Torque Converter Clutch at higher speeds and causes the service soon light to come on, one time it caused the engine to shut off as I was driving, turned off key and it restarted it did this three times before I replaced it (cost $75 remanufactured) and the Idle speed control 3-times, it sticks (costs about $45). There is more! E-mail is pkthomas@msn.com
