i have an 88 eldo in great shape..(well it was) i started the car and heard a very loud rattling noise under the hood by the belt and pulleys. it increased in speed with the engine..so i drove it 0.1 miles to gas station so i can have some light to see what it was and couldnt find anything touching the belts or anything. so on my way home (0.1) miles the powersteering went out (and so did the noise) and the computer flashed check electrical system and the batterylight stays on. is this simply a powersteering pump or is it a lot worse. (considering getting a newer caddy if the repai is to extensive :C .. i need you guys help on this so i want get bent over to far at the shop. what do you think it is and the estimated repair cost? :feedback

a new power steering pump and belt,
should do it ,
or maybe a repair on that pump :wrench
but losing the pump and belt ,would have caused other problems, eletrical and over heating

hope this helps

same thing

Same thing happened to me, however it happened while i was driving on the highway and my power steering just broke down on me. so i finally made it to the shoulder of the highway and popped the hood. turns out my belt snapped. when your belt snaps it effects your power steering and eventually cuts your battery off.
