Im new here, i just bought my first Lincoln today.

I noticed when I turn on the headlights, my dash lights go off, and I cant get them to come back on unless I turn the car off then back on.

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the stereo? I bought it from a guy who had an aftermarket stereo in it and looks like he just cut it out, so I need color codes for the wires.

It had a broken motor mount, but I got it fixed, and now it runs great. What are some common problems I should be checking for, though? (just to be safe)

Besides that, it runs like a charm. Smoother than my old-mans Cadillac.
 
sorry, my brain hurts too much right now to think about Conti dash light problems! LOL

but, if a previous owner 'cut out' the harness for the radio, you better check in trunk to see if the stock amp(s) are still there. chance the yanked em.

other problems to look for... 3.8's love head gaskets... keep oil and antifreeze fresh, DO NOT take a chance on overheating it if you think you might.. Cast iron block/alum heads/overheating don't get along.

Also common on 88-94 contis.. check DCL error. there is a 'tune up' procecure that fixes most of these errors.. do it.. follow it to the letter. it works a lot of the time (not all, but most).

The air suspension.. not a "problem", but can get pricey to fix if it poops on ya

a quick thought on the dash lights... remember this is just a quick possiblity.. The PWM module, or dimmer switch. the PWM module is actually what drives all the dash lights (including the backlights for the instrument panel).

other than, I hurt too much to think..
 
Also, Ive read posts about being able to lower the air ride with the sensors. How safe is this for the air bags? I do not want to blow the air bags, so id like to know if this will hurt them in any way, and how much it will lower the car? Im thinking off putting 17" or 18" rims on it (nothing to incredibly fancy), so I would like to drop it down to keep it at a more natural looking height.

What are your recomendations on drivers for a system? Im thinking of 3x15" kicker solo's, but I would like some input from more intelligable people on the subject.

There are lowering kits available for the Conti's. They are connected to the system so you can control the height of the air bags whenever you want. I am not sure exectly where to find them. I will dig around the net to see what I can find. If I find somethin I will post a link. But it is possible to lower or make the car ride higher. And it does not hurt the bags.
 
Can I get pictures of where the air ride sensors and the stock amp is so I know what Im looking for. Ive got my stereo wiring figured out, also.

Does anyone have a picture of the setup the fuse box should have, the owners manual is missing from the car.

So all I need is subwoofer recomendations, I think im going to go with 2x15" and 2x12" power acoustiks FUBRs with 2xPA2-1600 Power Series amps, and 1xPCNC3.0F 4 Farad Capacitor.
 
don't have any pics handy.. but quick rundown on a couple things..

factory amp is easy.. trunk, leftside, mounted kinda on the wheel well, behind the carpeting of course.

the height sensors.. rear- only 1, If I recall, towards right side of car, connects to the rear suspension (not way outboard near strut, a farther in). Front sensors, 1 each side, (don't remember exactly where, but easy to see).. If I recall correctly, all 3 have plastic arms that connects to the suspention parts. the sensors themselves are mounted on frame/body.


A good source for information is the factory service manual.. they are avail from Helm, or on ebay...
 
Ok...

I still have the stock amp.

Ill look for the sensors in just a bit and see how well my bags work, the car sat in the guys garage for a while.

I changed all the fluids and filters.

Next on my list is new tires and rims. Im wanting 17"s or 18"s, nothing ridicoulis or super fancy, just big enough to look nice and funtion good.
 
A quick and easy test for the air struts...

start car, let it get to ride height. Get out, leave door open! turn off air ride switch in trunk (left side, not far from fuel shutoff switch), and drive it around a little. if they are NOT leaking, it should hold its current stance proudly... if you got a leaker(s), then it will drop as you drive it around. if the first trip don't make it go down, leave air susp switch off for a couple days while riding it around. if after couple days, your still proudly at the proper height, then the air struts dont have any leaks.

Note: this tests only for leaks in the struts. It might show a leak in a strut seloniod also. It does NOT test the compressor or vent seloniod, or air lines.
