Me thinks I have our headlight solution !!! I bought some 1500 & 2000 grit sandpaper, I started w/ the 1500 and wet sanded the lens til the lens was a uniform milky color, I then did the same w/ the 2000, I then dried the lens's and applied Meguiars " PlastX" use a liberal amount and rub. I did this approx. 5 minutes per lens, total time was about 20 min. and they look brand new. Big difference at night too. Its been a week & they still look & perform well.

I've done this before (on a different car), but I used Mothers Mag & Aluminum polish after the 2000 grit paper.

Unfortunately, this does not solve the problem of the reflector material flaking off.

I might be able to get replacement aftermarket headlights. I know a guy who knows a guy...he says he can get them. I will post here and let you all know if it happens.

i have never wetsanded before, what is the process?

get a bucket of water put the sandpaper in it and sand, repeat as necessary

did you guys do it with a power sander, and with the lights still in the car?

Unless you are PROFICIENT at the orbital sander I would NOT recommend it. You will burn right thru the light. This works, but in a few months (maybe longer) they will be yellow once again. Trust me, I have done this SEVERAL times on both of my cars and said the hell with it cause it does not take long for them to become yellow once again. It helps, do not get me wrong, but I jus tgot tired of doing it every few months to a year. The biggest problem is not the lenses themselves but the reflector that is inside the assembly that is most likely burnt and is not reflecting any light....then you have the dulled/yellowed lenses= no light.:shifty:

I just put some ATF on a paper towel and wipe down the outside of the lens. It's only a couple weeks before they look ugly again, but it's like 15 seconds of work so I don't mind. It makes the outside look OK but obviously does nothing for the reflector inside, which is the bigger problem.

Ray, you're getting lazy in your OLD AGE, agreed, this process won't help much if the reflective surface inside is flaking, burnt and or chipping, BUT, if its just the outside I don't see a problem doing this every couple of months if it helps with the problem. afterall, it only takes 20 minutes tops. But then again I'm retired, so I have the 20 minutes to do this process every once in awhile to make sure I can see at night !!!

my mark doesnt need this. low mileage+garage=new lights.

my maxima does yellow though. did the wetsand a few months ago. every time i wax the car i was the headlights. no problems. still look brand new.
