Ok I had my xterra vs explorer thread but now I have two new contenders!

93 Bronco
- 71k
- 302 V8
- 4x4
- pretty darn clean
- nearly rust free

96 Explorer
- 110k
- 4.0L V6
- stick shift
- pretty clean
- 4x4

Both prices are the same

So, being its Iowa, and winters are tough...

I'm learning towards the Bronco being lower mileage and tough as nails, but I love having a stick shift, and the explorer gets 2 more MPGs city

Thoughts?

I'd lean towards the Bronco. Those old 302s are nearly bulletproof, and you should be able to retrofit a 5-speed stick and/or 351W fairly easily if you wanted to go that way later. Plus, you can pull the roof off the back when the summer rolls around...

Explorer! all the way. I've had explorers and rangers for 25yrs "THEY TAKE A BUMPIN' AND KEEP ON HUMPIN' ":D

Bronco.
Its a real truck.
The exploder is well..... a exploder.
Been driving Broncos in the winter since 1989.
Im in my 6th one.
Short wheel base, dam hard to get stuck.
93 isnt the best year, but the 5.0 is bullet proof.

6 in 20 years... I don't know about that mang... lol...

The Ford Bronco always reminds me of O.J. Simpson... You know, when he was on the run for that crime he didn't commit. :shifty:

Right after that happened, I was shopping for a new car at a local Ford dealer. The salesman who was helping me said Ford was planning a special edition Bronco in white called the SEV--Simpson Escape Vehicle. :D

The Bronco is wayyy more durable and buildable. Like mentioned above a real truck with real truck goodies. Brother has a 94 Bronco 351w, neat truck.

A Exploder will be alot more plentiful for parts as they made far more by alot. but still a exploder.

A 5.0 "H.O." is very durable and know for it. A common "302" is solid but far from bullitproof. Just saying not the same.

I consider the bronco one of the most unsafe vehicles around, Buddy had 93, took it into a feild was just :q:q:q:qing around, hit a rut thing flips, crumpled like a popcan, broke my arm and nose. I was wearing a seatbelt too. So in my own personal experience id go with an explorer.

I'll think more seriously about the bronco.

The removable top would be cool in the summer

So you baha a truck threw a field, it flips and you call it unsafe???

Thats unsafe driving.

You assume the Exploder would have crashed better? Probably could have put the Bronco back on the road after that, not likely the Eploder.

Besides Exploders don't need fields and ruts to flip, they loose ball joints and flip on city streets.:p

ive owned lots of explorers, broncos, f150,250',350's of different years, lifted stock, dailys, woods beaters, etc.

If your just looking for a winter driver get the explorer. They are fairly durable offroad but it will need higher gears if you go with bigger tires (31" max stock) that grip. You can do a shackle on the back and add a spacer under the front springs cheap and put 33's under it. The 5speed is nice to have and will be ALOT better on gas then the bronco. The problem is, clutch is a super pain in the ass to replace, ive done them and the slave cylinder is inside the bellhousing. You can put a 302 in it if you want a beastly build and newer big 8.8's with rear disc underneath it depending on what year you get. Stay away from the new explorers for a wheeler. The 92 body style was the last good one. With big axles, built right, and a 302 stick combination, and 4.10's it will go through ALOT with a snorkle.

The broncos are nice, but they are big and heavy. This is the better initial choice to build for a wheeler unless you want to spend the extra to build the explorer. They are pretty reliable but i preffer the 351w or the straight 6 in them. Thats just me. The removable top is nice and you can put 33"s on it stock, it will take more of a beating unless the explorer is built but as i said, its a pig on gas, especially the auto, it will be big bulky and slow.

I like both. If it were me, explorer for a daily. Broncos are nice for offroad and i've always wanted to put a 7.3 turbo diesel in one.

See that's going to be an issue rather soon on the explorer I'm looking at. I mean with 110k it will need a new clutch rather soon. Who knows how much that'll cost to replace!

Rust......why drive a rust bucket when I can go to Co. and get another one?
The first on was so rusty it was unsafe.

Go to CO. craigslist in the cars for sale and search Bronco.

The bronco I looked at was rust free - but it did have a bit of paint damage on the hood from the sun and on the rear tailgate.

Oh, and the mirrors were a little pitted...

Something else to consider.

At least around here clean Broncos are desired and go for decent money. Explorers are a dime a dozen.

The Bronco will loose little value if kept clean. The Explorers value will drop to nothing.

Not knowing how much your talking but the Bronco to me should be the better value if priced the same.

i'd lean toward the bronco. i had one a few years ago, its was a 92 eddie bauer auto 351. i liked it, but too many trips in the mud cause a hell of a rod knock and i sold it before it blew up. but it was 100% solid as a rock, it had 180k miles on it, and i still sold it for 3 grand with a bad motor because the guy buying it was looking for a solid truck to drop a motor in he already had built, 3 grand??????????????? i paid 800 for it as you see in this picture, all i did was put 6 new shocks on it, and a fuel pump in the 2 years i owned it. solid broncos bring big bucks still. and they make killer plow trucks too for the unreal turning radius!!

^^^and your in the south jamie, northern climate a clean one really can get a good buck.

On the plowing note the ability to drop the power rear window and view right out rather than looking threw a half defogged wet rear window to back up is a big bonus. Backing when plowing is extremely important and time is money when plowing.

i said explorer in the explorer vs xterra thread, but im screaming BRONCO!!!!!!!! the explorer doesnt even hold a candle to the bronco

nope, we had a 92 exploder back in mass and it was a pile, but we bought a 95 eddie bauer bronco fully loaded and i had my 92 eddie bauer and loved both of them.

I loved every one I had.

The 96 was the best but as I said rust got the best of it.
You right Jamie...the turning radius rocks.
