i've got this minor problem that i'm thinking is bigger than it seems. i've had the trans rebuilt in my 94..$1500. certainly not something i want to do again. this ones only got 100k but while going into overdrive the car rumbles pretty violently, as soon as you let off the gas, it stops, but occasionally will continue when pressing back down. all other gears shift fine but very soft. also, the car takes nearly 7-8 seconds to go into reverse. if you rev it up it'll find it quicker, but i know that can't be good for it. i've heard of the jmod and all this..and i'm certain i could benefit from firmer shifting. however, i don't want to tear much apart. i've found a complete, modified valve body http://supercoupeperformance.com/partBrowser.aspx?partId=229

i know i can install this, but i'm not exactly sure of everything it controls. i'm an ase mechanic, but have never done any trans work aside from fluid changes. also, does anyone know of an easier to read trans dipstick..the plastic one sucks..

any help would be greatly appreciated.
thank you

i had this problem in both marks I had (93 and 96) and i drained the trans, torque converter, replaced the filter and did the 1-2 accumulator and it cured both. The long time to go into reverse might be the Manual Lever Position Switch (MLPS aka neutral safty switch)-it is very touchy if out of range or adjustment.
Even after doing this pretty much necessary service on both, I still hated the long time between shifts and did a Trans-Go shift kit in my 96, and I love it. Now it reminds me of my 70 goat with a 400 trans,it'll bark 2ed and 3rd-Hope this helps.

Sounds like the typical torque converter shudder. Replacing the fluid and filter usualy fixes it.

i had a problem going from 2-3 with the shudder. Drained the TC and tranny, changed the pan gasket/filter and it went right away in less than a hundred miles.

chip is going in soon, next will be a mild j-mod.
