Hello, Newbie here. I bought a 94 Eldo of a friend of mine last week and he wasn't very truthful about the car. Let me give a little history. I talked to the original owner and he told me it has never seen a winter. It looks fabulous white pearl /beige. My buddy put on newer STS wheels and new Khomos, 12 disc cd changer, 800w amp and after market Clarion with sirius service, new water pump, belt and idler pulley. I have the original wheels and tires in great shape, also original stereo. The problems, He never told me the ac didn't work and told me the motor was tight with no oil leaks.he was selling because his business was slow and it was a third car for him. Ok so I have owned it for a week and it is at another friends garage for a ac compressor right now and a couple other things like cruise control not working and a check engine light when on highway only. I was there when they put the car on lift and the "N" is indeed leaking oil all wet under pan. My buddy mechanic tells me they all leak and it is a very big job to repair. The "Buddy" i bought it from had topped of the oil (overfilled) to hide it I guess. My question is. Will I be ok keeping an eye on the oil level and enjoy the Eldo for what it is? Or is it a nitemare waiting to happen with serious oil leak issues. THe car has 77k original miles on it and is truly a beauty to look at. Sorry for the long post, and thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I've changed my oil pan gasket before, and the hardest part is getting past the exhaust. It's better to have the system pulled out so you can fix it now, because if/when it gets hot enough the car (mine anyway) will stall out when it gets too hot. Even on a flat surface they are heavy as hell to push off to the side alone.

Get the oil pan squared away now whilst it's in your friends garage, you'll be happier in both the long and short runs. Like I said, the hardest part is getting past the exhaust, so you might as well do that too if it needs done.

I also own a '94 Eldorado and mine also leaks oil at the oil pan and oil pressure sensor, which is attached to the oil filter apparatus. I need to replace the pan gasket or do something to stop the leaking. One problem you may run into depending on where the oil is leaking from is oil dripping onto the exhaust pipe and causing smoking. At this point, don't panic about the oil leak as early N* engines tend to leak oil. It's just a matter of whether you are willing to tolerate it or fix it.

As far as the cruise control, the problem may be as simple as the vacuum line slipping off the servo. It's probably not a major problem. If the vacuum line is loose it may also indicate the line has stretched/expanded at the connection. If this is the case, just cut a half-inch of tubing off and reconnect making sure it's a tight connection.

As far as the air conditioning, it's possible a leak developed. First, check the A/C compressor fuse, which is located in the engine compartment fuse block on the left side. It's a 10amp fuse. Otherwise, it may be a matter of simply adding refrigerant as the system will not operate if there is not enough refrigerant. I would try to seal leaking with leak detector and sealer first.

Also, your Eldorado has an Operating On Board Diagnostic System referred to as OBD-I. You can check for engine and system problems by simply activating the OBD system. To activate the system, do the following:

To enter diagnostic mode:
1. Turn ignition "ON."
2. Depress the "OFF" and "WARMER" buttons on the Climate Control Center (CCC) simultaneously and hold until the segment check appears on the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC).

After entering On-Board Diagnostics, a segment check is automatically performed and then any trouble code stored in computer memory will be displayed.

Got Eldo back yesterday afternoon, THe AC compressor was toast, new one installed system filled and checked, all is well hvac working fine.It needed an o2 sensor for check engine light at highway speeds. ok now. The cruise is working. he didn't tell me what it was.Oil and filter change, check coolant and trans fluid. $800 cash I didn't enjoy spending right of the bat, but I feel better knowing it is up to snuff. The mechanic told me the oil leak is behind a plate at the crank where they use a string gasket cause of the aluminum block and is a huge job to repair. But he also told me when he worked at a Olds dealer in the nineties that that every Aurora with 30 to 50k had the same leak and just keep it topped off.The leak can't be that bad as I have not seen any oil on driveway where I park it for the past week I've owned it.It sure is a beauty and sweet riding Caddy. Thanks, I'll be a regular here. Nat:D
