I replaced the nuetral safety switch because car kept shifting into nuetral at highway speeds. Now car wont shift into third gear. What did I do wrong? I lined up the marks on the new switch as the instructions said and matched it to the old switch that came off of the tranny. Im stumped.
Any help appreciated.

Thanks, Allen

i doubt it because third gear was fine when i pulled the other switch off. The tranny was going into neutral at highway speeds and all seems to point at the MLPS otherwise known as neutral safety switch due to water intrusion at some point. Anyway the 3rd gear was right as rain until I swapped the neutral safety switch. Maybe there is more to aligning it than just lining up the marks on it?

well after looking at the instructions on installation.....maybe i have to use the new plug and grommet that came with it....i didnt use it and plugged the harness directly into the new safety switch. I saw that in the box was a new red plug and it looks like you have to pull each wire out of old harness plug and route them into this new red one....and they go into different spots??? Anyway its like a 7 pin to an 8 pin or something. The part is a BWD brand and the part number is S9190. Looks like the wires need to go to all new positions for some damn reason. Such as pin 1 on old is blank and on the new one pin 8 will be blank and so on....ugh! Any way if anyone knows more about this than me please chime in.......

I have never had a problem changing mlps's on a 4r70w
Maybe someone on crownvic.net had the wire diagrams.

i installed the old one and it works fine as far as all gears shifting. I just know that sooner or later its gonna start the shifting into neutral while at highway speeds again. I looked at the harness going into the switch and it has 6 wires, 4 on top and 2 on bottom. The new switch instructions show 7 wires with one blank pin, so somethings not right? Part numbers match fine though and i looked at a motorcraft factory part that was 50 bucks more and it had same pin and wire instructions.
