The fuel pump on my '96 Mark just failed....won't start and just dribbling fuel at the rail schrader. Only 67K and probably original pump, I'm thinking the 20 years has something to do with the failure?....anyway trying to decided to DIY or ave it done. Pics of the process would be very helpfull. Have only found 1 post here:http://www.tccoa.com/articles/mn12parts/fuel-pump/fpk-install/fuel-pump-kit-install.htm

This is on a mustang..is it representative of the same process on a Mark? Direction to any post exist on LVC that I am so far unable to find would be much appreciated.

Remove exhaust, disconnect lines, drop fuel tank, remove retaining ring, pull pump, swap, reverse.

Assuming your car is from Texas as well you have nothing to worry about when doing it yourself. I don't know if your new pump comes with a gasket or not but it's a very good idea to replace that and a new fuel filter while your at it.

Just take your time and you'll be just fine.

I don't know if your new pump comes with a gasket or not...

I thought you couldn't get the gasket anymore? SCP lists on their site when you buy a Walbro pump, they don't include a gasket because they're not available anymore.

I have a Walbro sitting here I have to put in still. If the gaskets are still available somewhere, I need to find one.

Here are some pics if it helps you. I put it an AEM unit because I had too. I got by without changing the gasket. If you can keep the rubber gasket from getting soaked in fuel It goes a long way in it not getting deformed/swelling.

Thanks for all the responses.
The replacement pump came yestrday. I went to try to start the car again(it has not started since my original post on 2/2, i have tried to start it a 2x a day since)to move it, and walla it started right up, good pressure at the fuel rail.
Question- when a fuel pump is going out, can it still work OK once in a while...like not go in to total failure all at once? Any suggestions on checking for other culprits before I replace the pump? Thanks

They can come and go. I have had my fuel pressure gauge hooked up reading low pressure and slap the tank bottom a couple times and the pressure comes back up and eventually drops back again.

When the pump went out on my wife's Taurus, it did that. It was acting up for about a month before it completely died one day.

Change it before you get stranded in the parking lot of Walmart getting stuff to make dip for the AFC Championship game.....:Bang
