1997 lincoln continental- Parked it after the power steering stopped working and assist light came on. Started it up the next day and pulled it into my garage to diagnose the power steering. i jacked the car up to inspect a P/S leak, after i was through i lowered it and attempted to start the car only to hear it turning over and not starting. The car has done this once before but seemed to correct itself,
on another note...
I put a new battery in last fall.. it shows proper voltage but depletes itself after only 4-5 seconds of turning over. replace it?

Where should i start to diagnose this problem?

im almost positive this is a fuel system issue. Can someone list me components and thier location in the fuel system that i can check?

THANK YOU

charge the battery fully outside of the car first. it should turn over longer than 4-5 seconds. if it still won't crank properly, check battery connections, and then consider replacing the starter.

i do have a warranty for the replaced starter. How do i check it if its bad?

charge the battery fully outside of the car. clean all battery connections. try to start the car.
if the car only turns over for 4-5 seconds, you have either a dead battery or ar dead starter.

if the battery is depleted after only 4-5 seconds, its dead or dying. that is way to fast. should last much longer than that.

Turns out it was the battery. It must be draining it over time. starts runs and drives. thanks alot!
