It seems to be overpressurizing and then overheating . It's been in the shop for a week and a half with no real progress. The mechanic can't figure it out and he's a little short handed for help, too. He ran a chemical test on the antifreeze to see if a head gaskets blown but it didnt show it (I don't know how reliable the test is). It is a brand new northstar with less than 2,000 miles. I'm at a loss for the situation, so any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated.

also, it could just be needing to bleed the air out...

have you ran the car with the rad. cap off until all the air runs out of your system? takes about 30 mins of turning car on and off..etc.

One other thing could be a poor water pump, an over tensioned serp. belt could cause chronic overheating, or maybe your reseivor tank leaks coolant.

If its one of your coolant plugs or head gasket be prepared to spend at least 500 bucks for repairs.

The only other thing i think it could be is your upper/lower rad. hoses... if it has lost its shape, and closes when the coolant heats up, then that could cause problems also.

NorthStar engines blow....suck.... w/e--- literally. I had to replace the head gasket on my sts with only 138,000 mi. on it, not as reliable as a toyota 4 sure... cost me 750 bucks for the work because i had the dealer pay the other half since he stated "it was looked over with no defects".

but 2000 mi. seems kinda odd to have that sort of problem... gm makes crap.. caddies really look good and drive smooth... but they are crap non the less. Maybe you should just sell it and get a lexus, lincoln, jag, or bmw. Hell they are all luxury cars that should be just as nice, with hopefully less problems than the 32 valve paperweight of "engineering gm genius".
