I really need some info/help in finding someone, some place that will rechrome my 98 base chrome grill. My grill is peeling in different places and is looking sad. I'm aware there are grills for sale but just don't trust those who are selling them. Also don't want to pay big bucks.....Do know too rechroming might be expensive. Any help? They are NOS grills for sale but $$$$. I'd paint it the color of the car, I did my 95, and it looks great. My CE is car color.
Really the only person I'd trust is Carlos for a grill......Anyway I'd probably have to strip the grill to get it smooth before painting....then find some painter to shoot it....I'm not a painter.....as far as painting it car color I have no objection infact it would be better cause no chrome to peel...... Your going to pay more to chrome your grill than you would to get a new one. Finding someone that plates plastic might be a problem. Just changing the grille is quite a task. Just call Carlos, and have him send you one. dbleb88,Bruce, might have a NOS in the box new one.

My brother just just started Chrome painting. It is actually silver and you can chrome anything except high heat items. Suppose to be strong and long lasting. Plus its cheaper than chrome plating. But the biggest problem I see would be the prep. Same problem if you paint it the same color as the car. If the chrome is peeling off it will continue to do that unless it is all removed. And I can't imagine having to remove all of the existing chrome.

Replating plastic chrome is nigh unto impossible due to process. I have had no luck even finding someone to remove plating on a plastic grille for my tbird. I wanted to paint it black and found out even soda blasting would damage it. I replaced my chrome grille on my black Mark 8 with a black one and it looks great. The chrome one was minimally damaged when someone backed into it, so I bought a black one on ebay for around $100 and had it lightly sanded and repainted black. Good hunting.
