well my 4.6 has a bad head gasket. and im replacing the engine, and the transmission because it slips just a little under WOT from 1-2. so no sense in installing another engine that'll destroy whats left of the old transmission.

my question is what all is required to make a 99-02 C head 4.6l 32V work in place of the 98 specific ( in the continental ) B head 4.6l. i know the 99+ doesnt have the intake runner controls. but thats the only other difference i know. i was thinking if it throws a code( which im sure it will) i could use a 99+ ECM. but is the ECM programmed to the security system? any help would be apprichated. im trying to get this done within a week or two.

Search this forum for a link i put in from the mustang people or google the mustang forums - they seem to have the know how to do the head swap. You would have to change intakes because ports are different. I know a guy who changes the programs on the chip, maybe there is one in your neighborhood, too? The security is controlled by the light module.

well im doing a full motor swap so ill be getting a whole new(used) full assembly to drop in, im only going to pull the intake on the new engine to do gaskets/ tune up.

Well i bought a motor and trans out of a 01 today. Also have the wiring harness. And pcm just incase i need it. Tho through research it'll probably have to be programmed to use a different pcm. Tomorrow hopefully i'll be bringing the car into the shop with the engine/trans and getting the install started.

Check your power steering lines while the engine is out. I say that because I had one that was leaking (turned out to be just a loose connection where they joined) and a replacement line was only $30 but the replacement instructions said:

Drain & remove radiator.
Evacuate freon and remove AC compressor.
Empty & remove power steering pump.

which would have turned it into a major undertaking.

I suppose you'll install a new serpentine belt & tensioner and related pullies. After all, you'll never be able to access them this easily again!

I actually had the lines replaced just a few years ago, thanks for the heads up though. Yea ill be transferring over all the belts /hoses/pulleys /water pump/thermostat housing/ spark plugs/and coil packs
As they are all brand new on my current engine
