I just pickup a '98 with the driver's low beam removed. I have a '93 but this is the first '98 I have worked on. I have read and heard a hundred different stories so someone set the record straight. I figure this is the high dollar part everybody is talking about and is no longer available from Ford???? What do I need to look for to replace the low beam light? Is the square box on back of the housing a ballast? Is it separate from the bulb? I've seen several on ebay for sale but I need to know what to look for. Are the left and right interchangeable? I don't have a shop manual for the gen 2 cars yet and I didn't want to just start ripping the passenger one out to see what it was made of.
I also need a header panel(piece above the bumper cover), grill, hood, and passenger fender if anyone has parts near southeastern Virginia.
Dave.

They are back in stock now. Just drop MAX or the boys at Team Ford and they will hook you up.

They might still have some stashed, but distribution centers (HVC) have ZERO as of last week. So whatever is at the dealers, that's all you can get at this time. I sold all the 50 bulbs we had in no time.

I called Max, he's on vacation due back maybe tomorrow. They have zero unless he has a secret stash. It's the low beam that I need. The ballasts are there and I can use the aiming device that is still on the car. The price was ~$200. After making a few calls I understand the hi beams are standard bulbs(no HID's). Has anyone been able to go upstream of the ballasts and install standard bulbs in the low beams? These lenses are far better than the gen 1. Can the gen 1 bulbs be used in the gen 2 cars? $400 for a set of bulbs, not to mention if the ballasts go bad, is rediculous. Anybody out there tried to modify these things?

I know that modified Gen2 bulbs can be used on the Gen1 HIDs. But I think that's by virtue of removing things.

And halogen bulbs certainly won't work as a replacement.

The best last hope we as a community have is that someone will start making a reasonably priced adapter so that we can all replace the Ford HID system with a standard aftermarket DS2 one. One that doesn't use frustrating proprietary components.
