hi, i have a problem with my climate control like this...The A/C works perfectly, but no matter what i cannot get any heat out of the system. I have checked the blend door operates (you can hear it has you change the temp), but what seems to be the problem is that even with the motor at top temperature and the thermostat open, the pipes to the heater core dont seem to be getting very warm, i dont understand this as every other water pipe under the hood, is redhot at this point! The heater used to work, but i think it stopped working when i changed the coolant from just water (that the previous owner put in) to a proper water/antifreeze mix. When i did this i had to change a couple of water pipes also as they turned out to be split. Any ideas?

The A/C and heat are two totally different systems. They do not work hand in hand. You said you have good anti-freeze.Take your thermostat out and put it in a pot of boiling water.Thats the only way you know its good. But then again you might as well just buy a new thermostat while you got it torn apart as thats most likely your problem anyway.Goodluck.

If the blend door was stuck, he could be getting cold air instead of heat. I've had this happen and I had to replace the blend door actuator. Using the "auto" setting on the climate control will use both the A/C and the heating system, and the blend door and blower motor speed control how much of each comes through the vents.

I wondered if it may be the thermostat, although in the car it seems to work. (You can suddenly feel the top radiator hose go hot after the engine has warmed up a bit), although i will swap it out as you suggest.

Black87LSC: i tried to check the blend door by changing the temp and listening for the motor to run -which it does. Although i suppose that doesnt mean the actual door is moving! is there any way i can check this without ripping the dash out?

I did wonder if it may be the water temp sensor located in one of the heater hoses, just front of the firewall. Any thoughts on this guys?

The blend door and actuator is behind the tripminder. You do not need to remove the dash to get to it, but you will have to remove the tripminder. I also recommend emptying out your glove box and opening it all the way. You do so by gently squeezing the stops so they clear the sides of the glove box door opening. Once you have access, you will need to remove 4 (IIRC) screws that hold the blend door actuator rod guard (it's a plastic piece). Once you have access, you can watch to make sure the blend door actuator is actually moving the actuator rod.

Hope this helps.

Thanks One Way, that does help. Ill be trying that this weekend!

I have the same problem, i found myu blend door unhooked like metioned above......but I still have no heat - the coolant lines to the core are cold!!

I have still to check the blend door as suggessted by One Way, but im wondering if there is an airlock in the heater core, because my heater hoses into the core are also cold, and unless the core is blocked i cant think of what else would cause that? Does anyone know if there is a solenoid that shuts the water off to the heater core when the A/c is turned on max? if there is im wondering if that may have stuck shut.

This question has now progress to the exact point as my original question on LOL. So we will find out together. I have asked the same thing to this point.

SilverFox, try this: I just fixed mine, was nothing more than an airlock in the heater core!! just loosen the heater hoses, start the engine then pull the heater hoses off slightly so the air can escape. When the coolant starts flowing through, just push that hose back onto the heater core, then the other when the water comes back out the other end of the heater. Simple!

I solved my heat issue.....I was low on coolant - and too errogant to check that simple fact first :( I split ONE GALLON between the rad and the overfill -ouch. had just enough to to cool the car, but not enough to hit the heatercore - probably burnt up my water pump too.....oh well.
