Anyone know how to unstick an A/C compressor? or am I better off replacing it? Mine locked back into the "closed" position for lack of a better term. My Girlfriends 6 year old Niece described the inside of the car as "ICKY" and that hurt more than her refusal to get in, or when said she and her 5 year old brother were going to walk back home from the park. The park is a little too far from home at 1/2 mile for a little girl to walk. She even took my phone to call her mother to pick her up. I tried the article described in the forums for fixing it (drop glove box, pull connector off blower etc) it was a "No Go". Any other ideas? Past couple of days HAVE been a little warm.

ICKY ? A Lincoln? Where do kids learn to say such hurtful things? Damn, Pokemon!

ummmmm, have you actually looked under the hood at the compressor? If the inner hub is'nt spinning, thats the reason your not getting cold air. There are a few different causes for this tho.

Low refridgerant
Too much refridgerant
Compresor clutch coil is out
Bad wiring to the clutch coil.

There are a few others, but the one I would be looking at is, low refridgerant. Our compressors have a nasty habit of blowing seals, at least all of the ones I have seen/worked on have been the case.

Hey 94...seals where? Where the lines hook up to the compressor? I ask because when I went to fill mine at a friend's shop, the oil came POURING out down near the compressor. Unfortunately, we ran out of time to actually look at it. I'm hoping that's the problem so I can get some AC back in this thing soon.

Yup. Had my brother sit in the car and fry his a** off,and had him turn on the A/C at max and the control up as far as it would go and watched to see if the front of the compressor would activate. Nothing. I put in a couple of cans of 134 thinking maybe it was just low and again nothing. Think I'm going to have to search around for a new one.

Yes, there is a wot switch.

What was your pressure reading after you filled it? You MAY have overloaded it.

NYCLSC......There are 3 o rings per tube going in to the compressor. I have replaced those before, but the seal I am referring to is the front seal on the compressor shaft.

Your gonna have a pretty big leak for oil to come "pouring" out of the system.

The guy I bought the car from said "he" put in a new compressor. Now taking into account that he couldn't figure out that the car needed an air ride module and a compressor and went to the dealer to have it diagnosed, I'm hoping his dumb ass didn't tighten the thing down..

Thanks for the info, though. Hopefully I'll have it taken care of in a few weeks. :Beer

How about the High/low refrigerant switch(es)?

Isn't there also a computer function that cuts off the AC at WOT?

is this on all mark8s?

I would think so.

The AC Compressor takes quite a bit of HP to run from what I understand. No point in keeping it running at WOT.
Besides, WOT is Temporary, so you're not going to die of heat stroke in 5-10 seconds. ;)
Also, I don't think the AC compressor would like spinning that fast when the motor is turning 6K rpm. I don't know what the AC rpm to motor rpm ratio is, but Im sure its close if not more.

yes, most all cars since electronic control of engine began have WOT cutoff.
Find your accumulator ,on top should be a connector (electrical)pull it off (it should be a 2 wire setup)
with car running and a/c on max,use a paper clip bent up to fit into the plug terminals, this in effect tell s the a/c that there is -1;enough refrigerent and 2:that the a/c switch is calling for cooling.
when you jump the connector it should immediately turn on the compressor/clutch,
if not i would guess either bad clutch,or lack of electrical power to a/c circuit.

Yep, you beat me to it, this quick diagnosis will tell you a lot about what is going on.

I took it to a mechanic turns out the A/C dryer is shot. rusted right through and the foam sleeve crumbled to dust when touched.

wow,
it must have been holding a decent amount of moisture in there to do that,

atleast its fixed now.

T'ain't fixed yet. Wants $300 for new lines and $200 for the dryer + labor + whatever other parts might be needed. I'll leave the windows and roof open for now and keep the 350 A/C.
I don't know how long it had been sitting in there,or why. ANOTHER problem the previous owner neglected to inform me of, The B**TA*D.

:Bang *owned* argue2 :Bang :soapbox: :bash:  :L
