You can get a junkyard trac lok for around 25-60 bucks, and then just buy a trac lok rebuild kit.

That's what I'll be starting on tomorrow, looked at 5 Thunderbird/Cougars at U Pull It today until I found a V8 TBird sport that had an "E" axle code. Pull the trac lok out of a TBird or Cougar since they're also independant rear suspension. Maybe if I can get ahold of a camera I'll take pics along the way.

I'm also pulling some SHO seats with the inflatable side bolstering and the seat tracks, I'll eventually have them re-covered and stick them in my Mark VIII. Maybe I'll try to find some 3.73s in an explorer rear. U Pull It kicks ass.

How much work are those SHO seats going to be to install?

They look to be similar in width, maybe it'll be really easy and they'll just fit on the tracks. I also have no idea how the seat memory works... I'm hoping since it's Ford, the seat track design and wiring will be similar. Hmm now that I think about it I'm only going to bother getting the seats if I can actually bring in a battery and test them first..

600.00 dollars from Ford Racing. brand new posi- 373 gear, bolt's right in. you will have to reprogram your computer or get a chip to eliminate the governor... among other things :D

The solid axle 8.8s can be 28 or 31 spline. They do not have provisions for the IRS's C clips.

So please clarify - a solid axle trak-loc (like one from a Mustang) will not work with the IRS in a Mark VIII?

Paul.

We have 28 spline. Get a 28 spline out of a mustang, not the 31.

Supercoupes come with trac loc, but not in the gearing you're goin for.

The automatics come with 3.23 TL.

If you want 3.73 check on eBay, once in awhile you'll see a 28 spline pumkin already assembled.

I always type in "28 3.73" for best results. Alot of times it will come up with nothing, or just gears.

I don't have much Ford knowlege myself. I know from reading around at the TCCOA the side gears between the IRS and non-IRS cars are different. I've heard a TL from a solid axle car will work, but that it will interfere with removing the half shafts in the future. I'm just going to get one from a TBird/Cougar, since I know I won't have problems there.
