A Word On Modular Water Pumps

In my quest to free-up more horsepower on the cheap, I came across an article regarding Modular engine mechanical water pumps. Thinking that the Cobra-R pump would be the best (based on feedback from R-pump swappers), I learned from some of my research that the Cobra-R pump actaully cost horsepower on independent dyno tests. The below link is an analysis between several late-model mechanical water pumps. It's worth a a look if anyone is considering swapping to a more efficient mechanical water pump.

Water Pump Analysis

In short, the 03+ Navigator/LT aluminum pump weighed less than other pumps and showed a noticeable increase in track performance. I compared prices between the major Ford parts sites and Team Ford Parts has the best going price at about $97- much less than other competitors. Just an FYI for anyone changing their water pump.

Ah, so the Navigator pump has a shroud ring on it, but with a larger diameter impeller. Very very nice.

Is the Navi pump a direct fit for the Mark VIII?

Yes; but you'll probably have to reuse your pulley. I was thinking that we could drop up to .25 of a second with Navi pump + underdrives.

I have heard good things about meizure eletric water pumps... But then again.. they're over $300.

In what?

With our radiators/cooling system the way it is, or was engineered, I'm not sure it would help.?

If our coolant circulates too fast, or too slow, in these cars, you'll run warmer.

Geno, can you specifically say that these help? How? Anyone else?

I had a 99 Cobra water pump in my 95 LSC and it worked good. This is the water pump reccomended in the SHM book, but looks like the 04 Navi one is better.
