Ok i just got my oil changed and i just found out they put 5w30 in my v6. I know my v6 uses 5w20. Should i go back and tell them to replace it w/ 5w20 for free or is it ok to run w/ 5w30?

5w30 is ok it's a little heavier than 5w20, but if you ran 5w20 in your car call them and see if they would change it out for free !!!

ok thanks preciate it. just wanted to make sure it wouldnt effect my engine. i work all weekend so i'll call them mon.

as long as you change your oil regularly , i wouldn't worry about it.
Maybe this time change it a bit sooner than you normally would.

what year is your ls?? wrong weight oil I hear can do strange things in 03+ due to the VVT module being controlled by it's internal oil pressure.

:I with beaups the wrong weight oil can be bad, stick with the oil that was in your car when it came from the factory.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, but you should take it up with the manager of the oil change place. I'd probably push to have it replaced with the correct oil; then again, I change my own oil just to avoid this sort of problem...

I use Mobile 1 5W-30 here because it's a lot more common than the 5W-20. I have never had a problem. Of course, it's so stinking hot here in the summer that it shouldn't be a problem. I use the same in my Cobra. But I use the Motorcraft synthetic blend 5W-20 in my wife's Aviator.

yeh but you have the V8. my V6 uses 5W20. i'm going back mon after class i'm not really worried about it but its just the point how can he put the wrong oil when it says what kind to use on the oil cap. i was going to do it my self but i dont have alot of free time from school or work. and when i do i'm out so i paid them to do it in about 10 minutes.
