I have a 2002 Lincoln LSE and my mechanic said that my ABS Control Module is bad and this is causing my Advancetrac message to appear along with the ABS, Brake and Advancetrac light to alway be on. Does this sound accurate and has anyone ever replaced this on there own? Where is the ABS Control Module located on these cars? If someone has replaced this before, could you please give instructions on how to replace it?

your regular mechanic will not be able to complete that job. Module information needs to be downloaded to the ford diag tool and then uploaded to the new module when installed, then it needs to be re-calibrated.

What are the codes you are getting. Ive replaced more brake boosters and master cylinders than abs modules on the LS, there are a few TSBs out for advanctrac concerns.

You better off letting the dealer look at it.

Wait a minute! if the ABS is that fried how can the downloaded information be trusted.

corrupted data is still corrupted data, unless the diag tool can default certain info.

He's not saying it's fried....just throwing a code. However, it has been my experience that not all the modules that claim to need reprogramming do in fact have to be reprogrammed. However, with this being a very serious safety issue, I would follow LincolnTech's advice and let a dealer handle this unless you are VERY familiar with the electronics systems of the car and have access to a NGS tester.

The information needed to calibrate the module is taken from the vin block stored in the PCM, its just easier to explain it the way I did. If the information is corrupted or cannot not be retrieved we have access to the data from ford and it can be manually entered. Then after that the steering angle sensor, yaw sensor and acceleratometer need to be re calibrated. That can only be done by the dealer.

Your mechanic can physically replace the module but then you will have to bring it to a dealer anyway to have them program and calibrate it.

Thanks for clearing that up.
But also can't a shop that can reprogam the pcm and other modules recalibrate your module as well.

I keep thinking that some of these modules need more aftermarket support. I mean wouldn't performance enhancing brakes, rear diff, suspension and tires all throw the abs modules programming out of whack??
The dealers in my area are two stupid to be able to handle that sort of thing.
