Hello Mark vii posse. What is the parts overlap between models and years? I need to replace the ABS pump on my '87 Bill Blass. Is the pump on the LSC's the same? Does it change at all from year to year? How about T-Bird supercoupe? I know the accumulator nipple changes in later years but if you swap over the entire pump unit with the accumulator attatched will it still work?;) Also, is there anyone supplying gasket and o-ring kits for this job? Sorry for all the questions but I don't want to yank a part I can't use knowhatimsayin'?

Yes.

If I Recall Correctly,
1984 get's used in 1984
1985 get's used in 1985, 1986, 1987
1986 get's used in 1985, 1986, 1987
1987 get's used in 1985, 1986, 1987
1988 get's used in 1988, 1989
1989 get's used in 1988, 1989
1990 get's used in 1990, 1991, 1992
1991 get's used in 1990, 1991, 1992
1992 get's used in 1990, 1991, 1992
How about T-Bird supercoupe?
Only certain accumulators.
I know the accumulator nipple changes in later years but if you swap over the entire pump unit with the accumulator attatched will it still work?;)
It should if it was a good unit to begin with :)
Also, is there anyone supplying gasket and o-ring kits for this job?
You'll have to google that answer.

Weknowhachasayin'.
You can't go wrong swapping year for year so hold out for a 1987 assembly and have it rebuilt before installin it.

Sage wisdom

O.S.1, you're the man. Have a lead on a complete master unit nearby...have to confirm the year though. What could really change year to year besides pump pressure? I guess that's a pretty important detail.:p Thinking about the whole accumulator thing, I work in a machine shop and from what I can see it would be a snap to make an adapter to interchange these parts from year to year (provided the guts are the same), Hmmm...a new marketing opportunity perhaps?;) Maybe I'll even take a crack at rebuilding the pump myself, done other types in the past, not brain surgery.:p What does a rebuild on these units usually co$t? Do the pressure switches change at all from year to year?

Thanks.
I'm just a guy that made a lot of mistakes and spent a lot of money on a lot of stuff that I didn't need.

I dunno.
The ABS circut is separate from the ECCIV so there could have been differences there. What I do know is that it's best to be patient and replace unit for unit.

Cool.
We'd like to see that. I've just thrown money at people to rebuld/replace them. I don't have a spare so there isn't anything to test/experiment on :)

On my 1990 back in 1998, it was over $1000.00 at the Ford dealership.
Make some calls. Most shops will try to brush you off saying that the unit is old and should be crushed along with the car. THAT would be a shop that does NOT want your money.

I dunno.
Get a part number or six and google them. I don't have an immediate resource for em.

Got the new(used) part

Sorry so slow getting back on this. Bought complete master assembly on ebay for 70 bones, will pick it up next week and dig in. Keep you posted. Everyone cross your fingers for me!!:D

Got my brakes back!

Finally got around to doing this job.:wrench Ended up swapping only the pump/accumulator unit as this appeared to be the source of my headache (leak). Nonetheless, had to yank the whole master:bash: due to lack of space and do assembly on the bench. My car is an '87 and the pump is from an '88. So far, so good. Pretty hellacious:gr_devil: job the first time out but now having done it once, pretty sure I could do it again in less than half the time. LOVING THAT NICE FIRM PEDAL.:steering Thanks for all the help and advice!!:L

You're welcome and thanks for sharing the experience with us!

What would you do different?

Leave the ABS controller alone

I was having a real problem freeing up the brake lines on the ABS unit so instead of possibly damaging lines or stripping threads,:Bang I separated the ABS unit from the master and left it sitting in the car. I had no reason to believe there was anything wrong with this part so why change it?;) The trick is you have to loosen the nuts on the ABS unit, move it away from the master (you can only move it so far or risk buggering the lines), (carefully) crack the studs with a vice grip,:wrench unscrew the studs from the body of the unit, and you're in the clear! Everything else can come out leaving those old lines more or less undisturbed. Those lines are just plain awkward to get at so why not work on something you have easy access to?:D Hope that saves someone some trouble!
