Where do I attach and check the freon on my 01 ls v8? My ac will start blowing hot all of a sudden but if I raise the temp to max and then lower it to 70 it will blow cold for a while. I found the large fitting but not the small one. Any thing else I can check? thanks

I assume you have a set of gauges and know how to use them. It sounds like you've located the high side valve. The low side valve should be located on the compressor. What an absolutely stupid place to put it. You may have to go in through a wheel well to access it. What you are describing is a fairly common complaint that may in fact be a DCCV issue. But checking your pressures is a good idea just to be sure.

What is a DCCV and how do I test it? Thanks!

It's the valve on the lower right side of the radiator that directs coolant for the dual climate control. Your symptoms are classic valve failure. Mine has been sticking for about 2 years now. 99% of the time it's fine, the other 1% I just turn off the a/c then turn it back on. That usually corrects the problem for a few months. I will probably change the valve later this year or when it fails completely, whichever happens first. Right now it's just a nuisance.

i found this old post and i was wondering maybe i need freon because my ac is blowing hot ass air,so i bought freon but i only found the high side valve i wanted to kno where was the lower valve at and which side driver or passenger and will this be an easy attempt

Don't put Freon in unless you know that it is low. You could do more harm than good.

If it's hot air and not just non-cooled air, then it is almost certainly the DCCV.

The valve is under the front of the engine on the passenger side. Remove the shield. Please use a gauge set to be sure you're not overloading.

by the miracles of god i turned on my ac today and it started to throw cold air out i dont kno maybe its running out?

On my 01 LS the AC compressor is on the lower driver's side of the engine. That's where the low side valve is.
You gotta remove 2 bolts (one 5.5mm and other bigger) holding small piece of plastic cover, and then move it out of the way (you can leave snap on in place).

It would be unusual for low Freon to behave this way. It is, however, a typical symptom of failing DCCV.
