My fiancée decided awhile back that she was in the market for a Mark VIII. She loves her sports car, but really wanted a better ride. So, the only logical conclusion was to get her behind the wheel of a Lincoln. We've been looking for the past month or so, but finally found the one for her. She wanted a GEN II Mark VIII black LSC with sunroof, which is actually harder to find in our budget than you would think, especially in this area.
Of course, there is a funny story to go along with this. I found an ad on cars.com for this car. It had been pulled from a newspaper classified so all it had was "1997 Mark VIII LSC" and the price. Unfortunately it was in Virginia and the ad did not include the area code with the phone number. Not letting that stop me I gathered up all of the area codes for VA and started calling them. It was 21:30 on a Sunday night, so I figured the one that worked would give me the answering machine to this dealer and I would know to call that number the following morning. I got about 2/3 through the area codes, and someone actually answered. I appologized for calling the wrong number and told them I was trying to contact a car dealer. The man said that I had the right number, he just put his cell phone on the ads so that he can be contacted anytime. We talked about the car, and I asked abotu pictures. He said there was a girl that came out on Tuesdays to put up AutoTrader ads and that he would make sure she made one for this car. He told me to keep an eye on autotrader.com on wednesday for this car, and gave me the zipcode.
So I kept checking autotrader on tuesday, but there were no new Mark VIII's on there. Sure enough wednesday a new one shows up; it's the 97 black on black Mark VIII. It has 95k on it (the guy said 98k) and it's not an LSC, but I figured that was just his mistake. But it's within 5 miles of the zipcode he gave me, so it has to be the car. It's ~3 hours from my house, so we make plans to go Saturday.
Saturday we're up and out the door early to get there and home at a decent time. The guy there is very friendly. I spend almost an hour checking it out, and even took it for a test drive. It seems to be a good deal. So I go into the office and sit down at the guys desk. He says that the best deal he can give me is $6700. My mouth drops, as the guy on the phone told me $5500. After a very strange conversation I determine that this is not the same car. I call the dealer again, they are 5-10 miles east of where we are at! The only two black-on-black Lark VIII's on the eastern shore within minutes of each other.
So, I start over at this other car. It's another good deal, and after another thorough look over, we decide it's the car she wants. It's a 1997 LSC, black interior and exterior, chrome rims, and just a hair under 100k. It runs great, and everything seems to work flawlessly. She's loving it, and I'm happy to have another Lincoln in the driveway. Now it means that I'm going to need twice the support from you guys!
I've added a few pictures, but it snowed yesterday and today so there's a little snow in the picture.
