I just swapped mine out yesterday on my 98.
I went with a JVC KDR740BT; a good entry level head unit.
General features:
CD receiver with AM/FM tuner
Bluetooth for hands-free calling and audio streaming — full-time connection to two phones at once.
built-in iPod control and USB connection to Android phones
Control PANDORA® from your iPhone, Android, or Blackberry smartphone works with Android app for gesture control over music playback.
Built-in MOSFET amplifier (20 watts RMS CEA-2006/50 peak x 4 channels)
Remote control.
Audio features:
24-bit digital-to-analog converter
high- and low-pass filters
3-band parametric equalizer
Expandability:
Built-in iPod control and USB connection to Android phones
Inputs: front USB and auxiliary inputs
Outputs: 4-channel preamp outputs (2.5-volt front, rear/subwoofer)
I got it brand new off a well known auction site for $109.99, Free Shipping, no Tax.
I used a Scosche Mounting kit: PN# FD1423B. $9.27 with FREE Shipping.
And to utilize the factory AMP I used a PAC ROEM-FRD2 system interface:$34.95 with FREE Shipping.
Product Features:
System interface to replace factory installed receivers and integrate factory amplifiers.
Adjustable 4-channel RCA outputs that provide Line Level Matching
Isolated transformer inputs and outputs
Trigger wire included.
Maintains correct phasing
20-20000 Hz outputs.
This made it super easy; truly Plug and Play.
NOTE: I did have to move 4 of the pins on the Black Connector over 4 spaces to make the rear speakers work. There is a note about it and a diagram showing how to do this in the instructions that come with it.
The sound is great & the install was a breeze. The hardest part of the whole thing was moving the 4 pins over in the black connector!
Total installation time including removing stock radio, wiring up the new radio to the harness, swapping over the 4 pins in the black connector, and installing the whole thing was less than 1 hour.
Total cost: $154.21
