aftermarket hoods???

Unfortunately, no. Not much demand for custom hoods for the LS.

I think I might have to do something about that.

Who would be interested in a hood if lets say I could find a company that would be willing to make like a 2" cowl or maybe a ram air style?

Ram air might look cool, but the Stock LS hood looks pretty damn good to me the way it is. I'm not big on the cowls though.. maybe if I saw one.

I think I slight raise in the hood with a functional ram air leading to the air intake would be pretty wicked!!!

the fact our hoods are alluminum make me not want a custom hood anyways.

I'm pretty happy with the LS hood. I thought about it a bunch of times but I doubt anything would look good, especially a cowl.

At most a S14 style hood with a single vent across the rear of the hood near the windshield but I doubt anyone would agree.

I thought about a simple heat extractor hood at one time, but a cai tube would accomplish the same thing.

Something that was symmetrical and everything was functional (i.e. something that actually helps the intake). And of course, looked good. I might get it.

I would honestly rather have something that helped the heat get pushed out.

Like I said something with a vent along the hood closest to the windshield from side to side, maybe 2 vents, just before the firewall or the edge of the hood.

The only way to get a good vent for the intake is doing something like Quicks hood and that is not symmetrical at all. Some other may be neat if the intake was positiond in the middle of the engine bay but its off to the driver side of the car.

cool thread! i'm actually about to complete a custom hood for the ls. it's similar to the sn95 saleen heat extractor hood. i have the hood primed and it needs to be blocked and reprimed and painted. unfortunately it's probably going to be non functional. i'll some pics later.

Please do. I'm gonna start searching for just a hood from an LS. I'm going to do the work myself and then bring it to a fiberglass shop that I know and trust and have him create a 2 sided mold to create the tunnel for the true ram air into the CAI. I'm also going to be working on making a a CAI similar to the JLT style CAI

here's a few pictures of my hood so far.

That looks great. Why cant it be functional? just a few holes drilled in the backwards facing facet of the indent, would extract a ton of heat. That being said, it does look real great!

That hood can be functional very easily... I like it and now I gotta try and get a spare hood to work with..

I must say that does look very good. Keep up the great work!

thanks guys, i've got about 10 or 15 hours in the hood so far. i had to put it on hold for now and work on my mustang project in my spare time. i'm in the process of swapping an sn95 dash into a fox car and it's takes all my free time. i've already fiberglassed the back of the hood though, and that's why i didn't make it functional, but who knows, i could always change it. does anyone think there would be any noticeable benefit to making it functional.
