Has anyone had there air bags deploy for no apparent reason. I have a 2004 LS and while driving down the freeway my side impact air bags deployed while changing lanes, Ford is claiming muliple impact on under side of car around the drivers area which caused the left side air bags to deploy. I have looked under the car and can not find any damage to the under carrige that they are claiming.

WOW thats scary. you should definately fight that one.

At this moment we are waiting for the claims inspector to look at the car tomorrow along with my wife and a third party, I am currently out of town and can not be there. We will be evaluating our options once we talk to our lawyer, I do not want to go down this path and ask for them to fix the darn thing but we are getting major push back from Ford not the dealer. If you look at it this way, you could be driving down a gravel road and a rock could hit the exact spot where this sensor sits and bang there goes the air bag, nothing you can do to avoid this and Ford will tell you it's road hazard.

at that point the air bag is no longer a safety device it is a safety hazard. How much help is a device that might blow up at the drop of a dime. Good lord you would be gun shy of them after the first spontaneous explosion.

True, let me tell you that was the most god awful noise in a car I have ever heard. I sure would like to find other LS owners who have experienced any air bag deployment, and ask them what Ford did to remedy the situation or did there insurance have to pay.

If you didn't hear or feel something hitting the sensor then it's pretty doubtful a sensor that wasn't bad could have gone off from that. When I was in an accident and asked why the bags didn't go off they told me. It is like a minimum of 15 or 25 mph and there are 2 sensors for a front accident. one throws the airbag light on 2 sets off the bags. It's a ball in a basically magnetic hold which gets "popped out" by force. Not sure exactly how a side one works but shouldn't a diag be able to see why the thing fired off?

They did run diag on the car and the code did come up indicating a hit under the drivers side seat. The insurance company did inspect the area and there finding was no impact in the area Ford is claiming. We have scratchs chips and the normal wear and tear under the car but no dent to speak of that would set the sensor off. My point to this problem is, with the air bag deploying no matter what, unless it's a major accident should never deploy while driving down the road which could cause a major accident.
