I've been told the the 2002 Lincoln LS air box, offers increased air flow and performance over the 00-01 airbox. Does this mean that the air box mod published on this site is not necessary on an '02?

Also, are the issues with the Valve Cover Seals leaking common on the 2002 or is this primarily an issue with the 00-01?

Thanks

It is true that the 2002 Lincoln LS Air Box is less restrictive than the 2000-2001 boxes. As for the air box mod which thread are you referring to? If you plan to buy the 2002 air box it might cheaper to get the KKM Induction Kit. However, this all depends on if you are wanting the air box to maintain the OEM stature. The OEM air box is around $200 unless you get it used at a salvage yard or on eBay.

Cutting the entire bottom out of the air box will definitely increase air flow so you should see some increase. However, if you wanted to have more air coming into the box try running a 3" hose from the lower air dam to the bottom of the air box. There is a hole where the original air box mounted to at the bottom. This way it will force cooler air into the air box.
