I was looking around under the hood again last night and noticed what looks like 2 resonators on the intake tube between the T/B and the air filter. I am guessing these are like the Maruader and they help silence the intake sound. Can they be done away with and the stock filter setup left without any problems? I removed the silencer tube from my Vic and it made it sound much better when WOT. Not too loud, just noticable. I did not like the K&N setup. You could hear it almost anytime you gave it any throttle.
If this is possible, does anyone have an 03+ they have replaced the factory setup with an aftermarket that may want to sell the original one? I have the extended warranty and would not want to make any permanent mods until the warranty is expired.

Make me an offer, I may sell mine for a good price. I will be replacing the rest of the intake soon.

correct - and yes.

Xcal2

I still have my Xcal2 from the Vic. I am awaiting for instructions to send it back to SCT for unlocking. Can the SCT do anything for the "mushy" throttle response on the drive by wire system on the 03? I know the 05+ Mustang guys have had good success at eliminating most of this trait.

Its still mushy in D4 and D5, but pretty responsive using the SST. I had Torrie program mine the best he could to get rid of that lag. If you can get in you r old Vic, you can unlock the Xcal by using the Xcal software with a laptop. I had to do that when I sold my 02. Luckily it was still at the dealer when I realized that.

Yes, it is still at the dealer, but not too concerned, just wanted to know if spending the extra for unlocking and a tune was worth the money. The DBW is the only thing I really do not like about the LS.

If you do the intake and XCal on the 03+ It becomes a beast! It is night and day difference over stock. The car should have come from the factory that way. Well worth the money for the tune.

I removed both pieces on my '00 intake and have the KKm setup. I just sealed off the openings. Sounds MEAN when ya stomp on it. You can hear the supercharger-like suction.

I had James @ RWTD tune mine and all the mush is gone. Big difference in pedal responce! You may want to ask if your tuner turned off such things as torque reduction and all that. I cannot recall what it is right now, but there is another section in that tune that really causes big delays in throttle responce.

Smokey, if you want to wait about 3 weeks I am currently prototyping a true fenderwell CAI for the 03+ LS's that will replace everything from the TB on down to the air filter. I should be able to start shipping by mid April. BTW the CAI I am making will be put together nicely (aka no hacked together piece). It will be appealing to the eye and make good power. ;)

I am in no hurry at all on the intake. Sounds like soething I may be interested in so I'll hang on for awhile. :)

As for the tune, I am awaiting a response back from SCT on how to return my Xcal2 for unlocking, since I had to leave the tune loaded on the Vic I traded in on the LS. I am also trying to get my shiny new, never even registered, PRP transferrred from the Vic to the LS. Hopefully I'll have all this resolved sometime in the near future.

Durn. Yeah that unlocking/swapping the Xcal2 over will cost ya a little bit. The PRP swap over will be even harder. Gladly you never registered it but SCT is still VERY wary when dealing with swapping PRP stuff. They will probably try to give you the run around at first(attempt to foil any bootleggers), just stick it out and you should be ok. I would love to be able to add a 2005 LS database to my PRP. Oh well I don't feel like spending an additional $200 on it right now.

Low blow rocket. Mine is just protyped too. I have since replaced my setup with all polished aluminum. The original tubing wasnt appealing, but functional.

Oh man I totally didn't mean that as a shot to you. I just was meaning that I have seen allot of intakes out there that were ghetto is all. Look at the ricer crowd. yikes! I didn't even have you in mind when thinking that. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I would be interested in learning more about your CAI. I currenly have the KKM and I love the sound and it is great on cold/cool days and on the interstate. I can definitely feel loss in power on hot days sitting at a stoplight though.

Its ok rocket, your quote could have been taken a couple ways, I thought it was toward me, no biggie. :) The CAIs help the LS out a lot especially on the hot muggy days here in the Chicago summers. I see you are from Northern Ilinois. Where from? Im in the Oakbrook IL area.

Yeah definately. Once it is all said and done I will take pictures of the finished product. I will give the option of either a 3.5" fenderwell CAI or a 4" engine bay CAI. I will most likely run the engine bay CAI with a bigger filter so as to get as much air movement as possible to make up for the added heat. Maybe later on once those are up and running I will see if I cannot work on fabbing a heat shield for the engine bay CAI.

I live up here in Round Lake Beach, which is about 10 or so miles from the Wisconsin border.
