I was just wondering what the plastic pieces are on top of my engine (96) connected to the air intake. Is it the air resonators I have heard about? What purpose do they have, and what is a good way to get rid of them? I noticed most of you guys don't have them on there.

if its a resinator, it just makes your intake less loud. It also slows down the air going in to the engine. Yank it off and plug the hole with a bottle cap of some size.

I need tog et a MK8 so I know what Im talking about

The Stock Air Box is a giant waste... That big plastic box is set up that way to reduce the sound and winds up also reducing air flow to the intake. Most of us here have installed an aftermarket Mass Air Flow (MAF) kit. Simple install.. Most difficult part is removing that old box! Goto LMS www.lincolnmotorsport.com. Look up Mark 8 and
call Geno to order the MAF kit. ANYBODY who has done that will tell you there is a 'noticable' difference. Its like a giant breathrite strip for your intake!!!!!
