I need help. My 1997 Lincoln VIII is having air ride problems. When I turn the ignition on, the car level itself (goes all the way and drops down to the right ride height). After I ride for a few miles in the car, the "check air ride system" light comes on and the front end of the car proceeds to lower. I shut the car off and the car relevels itself and the front end lowers after a few miles again. I releveled the car last night and the car is still leveled this morning. But I know when I start the car again this morning, it will drop down again after a few miles, "check air ride" message will come on, and the front end will lower again. I have a Mark VII that is doing the exact same thing.

The air pump on my Mark VIII seems to be noisier than when I first purchased the car a few months ago. Now I can hear the air pump's noise.

The computer port for "check engine" light, is that the same port to check the air ride system?

My 95 is having similar problems, and thankfully it is the first time in over 200,000 miles.

On a different note, I am considering on replacing the air ride susp with conventional springs and shocks/struts.

I was curious, if I remove all the traces of an air ride suspension will the trip computer still give me errors? I am tempted to take the whole thing out any way and replace the status screen with a small video screen. Any ideas?

With your car at proper ride height turn off the air suspension switch and see if it does the same thing. If I were you though I would check out http://www.strutmasters.com/ for all the info you could possibly need.

You will get instructions to remove the error messages.
