air suspension problem, what'll they think of next?

I posted this message a couple of days ago and I think maybe I put it in the wrong place.

Anyway, the rear end of my Mark VII dropped nearly to the pavement while driving. I didn't hit any bumps or do anything to cause this other than drive down the street. Is it possible that I could be lucky enough to have something simple go wrong to cause this problem?

The previous owner replaced the air bags in the front with strutmaster shocks. The rear air suspension is (was?) original. I have a Chilton's and a Haynes' , but neither are much help.

Anybody give me a clue where to start looking? I suspect the compressor. Is it possible to test it on the car?

I'm from the Dayton, Ohio area. Anybody know of a shop around here to take the car to if I need a mechanic to fix it?

I'm gonna go with bad rear bags. The compressor was probably constantly trying to pump them up while driving, finally gave up and the rear dropped. If you don't fix the problem, you're going to be looking at a new compressor along with new bags.

Start the car and let it raise the car. Take a bottle with a soapy water solution and spray the rear bags and look for any bubbles (leaks). You can also let the car air up and turn off the switch in the trunk. If the rear falls, it's the bags. If not, probably a bad solenoid or height sensor.

The compressor is not working, so, of course the air bags won't fill up. With engine running or engine not running and key on, compressor won't work. Is there a way to check the compressor on the car to test if it's working?
