I may have a deal to buy a complete 96' Black interior but with 98' black interior door panels (I was inspired by KC96LSC's 97' panels on his 96'). I think it would look amazing with my dark portofino blue exterior.

My question is: Does the 96' dash fit nicely on a 94' Mark even though they have different radio setups? Can i still use my black, non-wood finish, panel covers for the radio, EATC controls, and traction control buttons?

What other problems might I be looking at switching a 96' interior into a 94' (minus the issues with a GenII door b/c those were covered by KC96LSC)?

Any imput would be nice, thanks guys!

Edit: My body guys says it is cheaper to buy new doors than have rust removed from my current doors. To avoid modifying the door to fit the panel, could I buy the doors off the 98' Mark and put them on my 94'? I have the keypad entry and I don't think I could part with that, what are my options?

For prices on doors check www.car-part.com - you can even search by region. Don't let page 1 prices scare you, at the bottom will be a list of how many pages of parts are listed and an asterisk will be at the page with the lowest priced parts.....

You'll have to check carefully on fitting newer doors - according to my Hollander Manual they don't cross - but that could be as simple as the extra hole for the door handle referred to in previous posts. Best thing to do is park next to a GenII and start comparing - but be aware door posts and hinges and latches are a common item for the factory to fiddle with as they pursue fit/finish issues.

Here's an idea - search for Gen 1 and Gen 2 doors, find a yard with both items, then go buy both the gen 1 doors and the gen 2 panels from the same guy. Recyclers LOVE single large buys and give HUGE breaks on price.

I wouldn't even CONSIDER switching dashboards unless you are a complete madman with a Chip Foose budget of time/money.

Thanks for the reply. I believe someone once said that the gen1 and gen2 doors where compatible. If any knows DIFINITIVELY please let me know.

As far as the dash... its a Gen1 to Gen1 dash, the only parts from a 98' are the door panels. Is it really that much of a terror to switch the 96' dash for a 94' dash? Dashes come off to do work all the time, are you refering to removing them as being tough or making them fit?

Again, while I greatly appreciate opinions and suggestions, I would really like for people that know for sure, one way or the other, for any of these topics. Thanks again guys.

I thought you were implying a Gen 2 dash switch..... Gen 1 to Gen 1 would only require medication, not necessarily involuntary commitment to a mental asylum.

Yeah, I figured you lost me with all the parts from different years, its confusing to me too right now: the combo I'm going for is a 96' black dash/rest of interior with 98' door panels. Black interior just looks the best in my opinion; dark blue is nice but you want to find a Portofino Blue interior peace..... better hire Indiana Jones to find it for you.

well......

I don't know what I was thinking when I made that post last night. There is a definate difference in the dash units. To perform this swap your pretty much gonna need an entire car sitting there to pull parts from.

Just a little FYI.... There is a 95 mark sittin in a junk yard about 40 miles from me with PERFECT black interior. Let me know if you would like some pictures of it, cause I could make a trip with the camera.

I Did Something Similar With My Old 89 Lsc That I Had...i Put 91 Interior In It..(i Changes The Color Of The Exterior From The Drabby Tan To A Venician Gold(custome),and Put Dove Grey Interior That Had Leather And The Velor On The Butt Area...and Let Me Say It Looked Really Good, many Compliments On It)))i Too Had Issues With The Dash, and Door Panels Meeting Up,unfortunatly I Lost 2 Features But I Didnt Care, whoope The God Lights And Something Else Which Was Stupid Cant Remember.
All I Did Was Do Alil Tweetkin Of Adjusting, and Just Re Wireing Some Feature Cause Some Feature Were Placed In Differnt Areas Of The Dash From 89 To 91...i'd Say In A Week Everything Was A-ok!

So Now With A Newer Mark..lol Im Not Touchin That. No Need Too..im Happy!;)

Mike, sweet man I would love to see what that 95' interior looks like, especially the dash and center section. Next week is my spring break, and I'm going to check out the interior that guys is offering me here in Iowa, $100 a piece for the 98' door panels he says are very nice, thats the only thing I bought so far without seeing so he would hold the entire 96' interior for me to see it. If the 95's interior, particularly dash and center section, are $250 and $100 or less respectively, then I would have no probs driving out to your part of the country to pick em' up. Let me know and thanks!

Tell you what......

I just bought a parts car from a junk yard. It's a 96 with black interior. I am gonna swap EVERYTHING out of it to the 95, and will have a complete grey interior. I'll sell you the whole thing for a REALLY good deal. The seats are in really good shape, with just some minor cracking, and the dash is in damn near perfect shape.

Here are some pics of it. Pm me if your interested.....
