I have noticed alot of heat coming from the driver side floorpan area while driving for a decent amount of time. It gets to the point where I need to put the window down to get some of the hot air out..

I would like to know what maybe can be done or what exactly is causing this heat to occur under normal/semi-rough driving. I don't want some kind of interior fire to occur, god forbid. LOL.

Any input on this will be greatly appreciated. It becomes quite annoying especially when driving on the highway for 35+ minutes. I wouldn't mind it in the winter,LOL, but this hot summer air and hot engine/trans heat doesn't mix well.

This is a 95 Mark VIII right? Does your AC blow cold? Are you getting hot air from the vents even on 60 degrees? What I am guessing is that the plastic blend door motor gear has stripped and stuck the heater door open with no way to close it. If you are getting no cold air at all and only hot then this is the problem and it will have to be replaced, which involves pulling the dash back far enough to get to it. The part is about $60 at the Lincoln dealer, and I had to do this on my 96 when I got it, it was stuck the other way with the heater door closed.

My 94 did this same thing once but went back to blowing cold, so I have a feeling that
this repair will once again be in my future.

I gaurentee that is what the problem is. Whenever I put Max AC on, it blows hot air out, then a little bit of cooler air. I always heard about the damn blend door motor and never knew what it was. I'll have to get it fixed soon, it's soo damn annoying. I appreciate your help. :Beer

i under stand 97 and 98 has this trouble with blend door, not the gen 1

The gen I does not have a blend door arm like the gen 2, the gen 1 uses a small motor with plastic gears inside to control the system. The problem is totally different that blend door failure on Gen II's. You will want to remove the message display to get to 2 of the bolts, the others can be reached through the glove box when the dash is pulled out. It is similar to the procedure outlined on the net, but there are a few differences. It is held on by 5 bolts. I am parting out my 96 right now and have the dash almost completely out, I will show you the location in the real world, not a diagram, so you can see where it is.

Run the codes using the procedure found here:

http://www.p71interceptor.com/eatcswap/selftest.html

They don't have all of the codes listed.

Here is a pic with the keypad and message center removed. I have everything removed as I am parting out the car, you won't have to remove as much:

Here is a pic of the part causing the problem looking into the message center slot:

You can clearly see 2 of the 5 bolts that have to be removed. The other 3 will be accessible through the glove box hole when the right side of the dash is pulled back several inches. It took me about 4 1/2 hours to change it out and I was going slow, but it is well worth it to have it working again.
