First of all i just wanted to tell everyone this is my first time posting :W , and have been reading the forums for about 3 months for i just purchased my first lincoln mark VIII 3 days ago. So nice to meet everyone!

I just put a brand new battery in the viii yesterday, and after about 1 hour of running the car my air conditioning systems kicks on and off, and the ABS light flash's at me. Then the battery light starts to fade in like the battery is dead. So i pulled the battery out put a new one in, and the car started fine, but i noticed that if they cars isn't reving around 3500rpm to 4000rpm, the car doesn't seem like its charging. btw i have a 94 MK8 with 39k miles on it, and the alt has never been replaced.. thanks for all the help you guys can give me, and look forward to posting, and getting feedback :dancefool .

:W to :V there are mark viii owners that will give you help, try getting your alternator tested at a parts store it may be going bad.

Welcome and it could be a couple of things.

First off I put all money on it being your Alternator... But that's and easy do it yourself fix.

But check all your cables from your battery, and your ground cables..

Check your cables from you alternator..

But if all connections are good it's your Alternator.

You can save a lot by doing it yourself..

welcome to the site and hope you have a fun time with the mark. did you charge the new battery before it was in the car. if you don't then it puts a heavy load on the alterntor and if it was getting weak it will cause all kind of strange things. been there done that. even the big guys boyd cottington crew had it happen talk about feeling good when you see that happen you don't feel so bad. as an old gunney said the hunk of metal doesn't have a brain back off and cool down then use the one god gave you to do it right. jd

That was my dad who some how is getting acess to my account. Anyway, Yes, it's a problem with the alternator. It could either be the Voltage regulator, or just a connection problem. I would check the main charge wire comming off of the alternator for corrosion. With that few miles, I doubt it's a problem with the alternator. I could be wrong tho.

As was said before, enjoy the mark you've come to the right place for information about it.

has ur car ever died on u? i'd guess the alternator
no the car has never died on me... but as soon as i turn the car off and try to restart it everything is dead. im on my 3rd battery in 2 days. *owned*

same thing happened to my 1997 a few weeks ago. replaced the bettery and alternator and it ran fine, hvent had any problems since.
alternator replacement is easy as cake on these cars, i did mine in less than 25 minutes removed and replaced.

Its the alternator, don't bother having it tested, just buy a new one. The same thing happened to me, I trook that stupid alternater out 3 times , each time it tested OK, I bought a new alternater & haven't had a problem since !!! Good luck with it & welcome to the LvC !!!!!!

Welcome fellow Mark Owner!!!

Go to Autozone. They'll test your battery for free and likely find out if the alternator is the problem. If it is, replace the alternator yourself. The parts and labor at a shop or dealer will be $300.00!!!
