This guy was lucky. The key to all this, and we may never know, is how fast was the car going at the point of impact. It's still scary nonetheless.

He got lucky it went on the passenger side of the engine not the driver side, that's why he only got a scratch and all those airbags may have helped too.
I've seen pictures like this before where it missing the engine there isn't much to take the impact when you have a 10" pole trying to stop 2 tons going god only knows how fast.
