Before I came home from Ohio, I reset my fuel mileage. This was on average. I drove 96 miles on the turn pike. eventually it reduced to 22mpg after I turned off the highway onto the two lane roads.

I just recently got 27 mpg checking it by filling and comparing miles since filled. This kind of surprised me as I had been getting 23-24 on long trips. I guess I got a tank full of low ethanol (Damm 'Publicans)gas.

haha. It surprised me as well. I was shocked. I wasn't sure when it was going to stop. And I bought my gas at Sheetz

I regularly get 27 mpg with my V8 during the summer. One time I hit 29.2 mpg with 100% highway driving and a tailwind on a 210 mile trip. Usually in the winter it will drop to 24-25 mpg highway thanks to the winter blend.

I mostly use 91 octane gas. I have noticed that when I use 89 octane (which contains 10% ethanol here) I get 1-2 mpg or so less.

Gotta love that turnpike driving. Took my 5.4 pickup a few years back, nothing like a 6,000 or so pound truck gettting 17 mpgs. I'm waiting for my tune up to see where I'm at currently, but when I first got my car and saw it easily over 27 mpgs on 3 hour highway trip I nearly jumped for joy. Big improvement over ye ol pick up.

i just went to cedar point yesterday and I was on the turnpike, racing another LS i happen to come across, yunger guy in a gold 2nd gen. And I was still getting like 20-23 mpg's at anywhere from 85 - 110 mph. Also the couple times i toped it out i was getting like 17 mpgs

So did you win? :D

no one really won we were just zipping around I'd be in front then him then I had to get off for CEDAR POINT!!!! Which was awesome, it was a perfect day, racing an ls then roller coasters then got stuck on the turn pike on the way home for a bit because a semi rolled over then watched a cts-v and a nissan 350z racing. I wasn't ging to get into that, they were doing atleast 120mph, and i can't afford that ticket, plus i already puches my luck enough

I just drove to cedar point as well, 250 mile round trip and was getting 27 mpg. If I would have did 60 the whole time I was getting 29mpg but I just couldn't drive that slow lol, Ohio turnpike gets good millage with the LS!

I had about a 60 mile highway drive (03 V8) and for a majority of that drive i was getting at least 28mpg. Usually I get around 24-25 but all the stars must have aligned and I held steady at around 28mpg for most the trip.

Btw, 05 Linc - Odd we both have 28.7....

I have never gotten anything close 27mpg in my V8. I drove the car home from PA to NJ about 115 miles of straight highway driving at about 70-80mph and the highest I got was 21 maybe 22mpg. Since then I get around 14.5-15.3 on average. I put 93 in consistantly, and every 3 fill-ups of so I put fuel injector cleaner in the tank (may be overkill but what the hell)
i recently got that ZMAX duel pack for your gas and oil. The first week it made a hellova difference in performance

I don't trust the average message anyway. Because I calculated it the old fashioned way with the trip divided by gallons, and it said 15.2 most of the time but I was really averaging about 16.7. it is still a handy thing to have. Now if there was only a way to shut off the "50 miles left" warning without having to reset it every 5 miles.

I got 29.6 MPG at 70 MPH last week driving 90 miles. I usually get 27-29 MPG on the highway. (A few times it was just over 31).

There is. Just stop at the nearest gas station :p

I've took two 450 mile round trips and both times the computer read 25ish. When I calculated it by hand it came out almost the exact same.

listen rod, no likes a dumb ass...so continue to be a smart ass and everything will be ok.

:p

There is, just fill up the gas tank. BTW, I have spent some time (sadly) figuring out the pattern to the warnings. After the first 50 miles to go trigger, you get a new warning every ten minutes, unrelated to how far you have or haven't gone. This is true of my 04 and 06 at least. I noticed because it's not the way my Grand Marquis worked. It was 50 miles, 25 miles, 10 miles, 5 miles, 0 miles.

Oops, missed Rod's reply.

About two months ago, a family/friend member rented out a hybrid Toyota Prius for few days, because of car problems and as much as i am embarrassed to say, i got a chance to drive it.
I was driving it around like i drive my LS, maybe a little harder since it had peanuts for balls and i was only getting about 25mpg. And, they advertise over +45mpg. Yeah right.

haha, well the first problem is it's a toyota ^. and myfirstlincoln, that's really odd that we both managed 28.7mpgs. I posted this to facebook and all my car buddy's dont believe me. I'll send them this website link for proof lol. And its amazing that the LS did this well. Why didnt Ford advertise this mpg? lol

ROFL so hard @ underline/bold/itallics
the LS has what? walnuts?

^He meant he was driving the prius like his LS, but only harder cause it had peanuts for balls.....btw I laughed hard at that too

Lol. Thanks for the clarification. The thing had no power. Full throtle was like 30% throtle in the LS. So i kept flooring it to keep the car moving, that's why i was getting a horrible gasmileage.

'06 Sport, I consistently get 27 mpg. hwy. and 23.5 mpg. mixed hwy/city. I use 93 octane. Where I live the choices are 87, 89 and 93 octane. My wife does city only and gets 18 mpg. in her '05 Sport V8.
