It almost seems as if recently my car is falling apart. My keyless remote system took a dump, the blend door took a dump, and the front air bags have been leaking for a little while. Well today after I got off work I was driving to my buddys house crusing on the freeway and the front of the car slams to the ground. Thinking to myself, wtf? I pushed the vehicle system check button on the computer, ran the whole thing and no errors came up. A few minutes later the check air ride error message came on. I drove it slammed to my buddys place and turned the car off. I turned it back on and it raised the car back up. Then I was noticing that the compressor was making odd noises. The car sat for about 5 hours and it held air, I got ready to leave. Got on the freeway and about 5 minutes later the front end drops to the ground again. From what I gather it only happens at freeway speeds and not around town. I hear what seems to be air leaking from the front drivers side every now and then while driving around the streets. Anyone have any ideas on what the problem might be? I would like to isolate the problem and repair it, but if I can not then I will just do a coil spring swap. There are a few birds at the wrecking yard, what years work if I end up having to do this?

When it comes to owning a Mark VIII- when it rains, it pours! Your front bags are toast. When the computer lowers the vehicle at highway speeds, the rest of the air holding the bags up deflates and your car drops! Convert to 1.5" lowered coils and never worry about them again...

so it is an actual problem with the bags, not the compressor? do you have info on the 1.5 inch drop coils?

It's most likely in the bags. The compressor is probably on its way out as a result of working extra to keep the bags up.

See American Air Suspension for the lowered coils.

pros and cons of buying a used air strut and replacing the bad one? It seems to be a bit cheaper to do that.

I've never bought a used or remaned air strut, so that I can't answer. But do what ever is within your budget. A lot of people buy these cars becuase of the air suspension; so if you're one of those types, then by all means keep the air ride.

My perspective:

Buying air strur used; it breaks a couple months down the line and you're out more money.

Buying coils; buy and install the coils, never worry again.

anyway to check and see which air strut is the problem? I want to make sure before I drop the money on a replacement.

I did the coil springs two weeks ago. It is the way to go. Trying troubleshoot the problem you will spend so much money. Remember, I was talking to you about buying your car? I found mine shortly there after. I went ahead and performed the 1.5" drop right away so I wont have that problem. You've seen the threads, Eddie at American Air Suspension for the springs.

In order to disable the check air ride you have to cut a wire behind the passenger front kick panel.

I'm not sure what effect that will have on the rear.

I'd pull the rear struts also as they are a 5 min job, very easy to do.

Make sure the rear springs have a rubber mat to place under the spring, otherwise you will get a lot of squeaking.

"Also about Eddie's discount".

To help lower your cost for replacing struts or doing a conversion with Eddie, Eddie will buy back your old air bags and compressor, just ask him about it when purchasing your products from Eddie.
