I've been looking at getting another car since March. I've looked at over 100 cars. I've made many attempts to purchase a car, but often as I am on my way to get it, someone else beats me to it. That's just the way it is sometimes.

So I went to look at two cars today, first it was supposed to be a 99 Honda civic EX, and then a 96 MK VIII. I decided to look at the Lincoln first since it was closer. I was amazed it was in such good condition (at least thus far).

It has a black exterior and slate gray interior. It only has 78,500 on the odometer. Fairly stock except aftermarket speakers and Cd player. Also has the stock mufflers back cut off and Flowmaster 40s with polished tips on each side. The door panels are seperating a little bit and in two spots one of the previous owners used staples to hold it together. Good thing I know a decent upolsterer.

The only "issue" that I saw with the car was the drivers side door handle was broken. It cracked off so I guess I need to get another and have it riveted on. If you have one laying around let me know! Black is the color!

I've been a car nut for the past 20 years and have owned over 60 cars. In the past 5 years, I've had 10 to include a 66 GTO, 01 F-150 H/D, 2 01 Convertable cobras, and an 02 GT convertable. One of the cobras was published as a feature in MMFF back in Jan 2008 issue. Even earlier back in 2001 I had both my wife's Explorer 5.0 and my old 89 Lx 5.0 in 5.0 magazine as well.

I have no goals for this one at this time, but that's how they all start out!

I'm in Fayetteville, NC and look forward to keeping it clean, and look good.

Sadly, I do not have any pics at this time. I'll upload them soon-after the window tint job.

Yep, thanks for the welcome! I actually PM'd Don yesterday before I went to look at it. I saw some vids posted by him at Fayetteville Motorsports Park. Kinda wierd, but I'm sure we'll hook up so I can learn these cars.

Welcome to LVC!! I have a matching set of gray door panels removed from a 1996 LSC with 45000 miles. They are perfect. I would sell them for $100 plus shipping. Let me know if you're interested.

I appreciate the offer! I can fix my door panels (I'm the upolsterer)...Probably won't be stock in appearance when I'm done but we'll see.

Thanks again!

Oh and Mike, don't pretend you don't know me...:p

DUN DUN DUUUUUuu.....

Man, I feel like the fool! So I gave this guy $300 deposit on the car and we did up a bill of sale, sold as is. So I asked him if the title was good and he said "yeah". I keep looking at the ad on auto trader and decided to see if I could find out when the last emissions check completed so I know when I have to do it again. Normally I buy a car at a dealer so they do all that mess.

I ran the carfax and it came back as a 2-time salvaged car! Smashed then rebuilt, and smashed again. I called him up right away and told him I don't think I can buy a car with a salvaged title unless it was a smokin deal as I'll never get my money out of it. Also the trust goes out the window as far as the rest of the condition of the car.

Sorta sounds like maybe he was just feeding me a line of BS. So he wanted $3300 for the car which was about 1K less than excellent private party retail. We agreed to 3K, but KBB says about $2K is a good number for that car.

Anyone have any thoughts? (I know you do) So I try to get it for $2K, or tell him no thanks and walk? I may lose my $300 deposit. I'm trying to be upfront and honest with him and not cause an argument so I would know if he is gonna keep the money or not.

Well my original post got deleted or something.
Car ended up having a salavage title, so it looks like I'll lose my deposit unless he decide to give it back. He did tell me it was a good title. More to follow for sure...

That's a bummer but these cars get "totaled" by insurance companies all the time for super MINOR damage because of the low appraised value. There are a few members on this board that have crashed their cars, insurance totaled it, gave them the cash & they've bought it back because they know how good the car is.

If I were you I'd throw a lower offer if the car is really clean.

Yep, he wanted to knock only $200 off the price but I was thinking more like $1K. So we'll see today what he wants to do. Either sell it to me for $2K, give me my deposit back, or scam me out.

Wow....In a weird turn of events, not only did I not end up with the car, but I lost out on my deposit. He said that he would send me half, but I'm not counting on it. We probably talked on the phone a few times and texted maybe 10-15 times. He was pretty much blaming me the whole time. I can handle it as the whole deal started with his lie. Buying a car from a person who is not bound by the same guidelines as a dealership can be rough sometimes. I definately won't do that again. Sadly, I'll miss out on a sweet driving ride.

If anyone wants a nice 96 MK VII with a salvaged/rebuilt title for $2800 let me know! I know where one is.

First Hi and welcome. Although not the most desirable a totaled Mark could have very light damage. Case in point. My 1998 LSC has a salvage title. Well here is the story ---- http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/showthread.php?t=77201 ---- It didn't even need a alignment. And I've seen them with even less damage. You can alway take one over to Barry's and have it checked out. Anyways good luck. Hell If I don't find a job before to long I may have to sell my 98.
