Antenna mast

Has anyone had any luck with those masts that they sell on Ebay? the factory one is like $50.
I can hear the motor running, and if i push down on it, it will lower it, then raise it next time i turn it on.
The manual says that you can cut off the damaged portion, and feed it back in. Maybe I should try that first.

I replaced my entire unit on the dealers dime. I bought the car, noticed it didn't work along with the CD changer, took it back and complained. Got the changer sent out for a repair, and a complete antenna ordered. Kinda funny they called when they got the ant. in, I went to pick it up and they tried to charge me for it. Wasn't gonna happen.

I did one about a month and a half ago real easy to do worked great... hardest part was that my old one was broken into a million pieces and i had to take the motor out and get all the old one out. I say buy it its easy and cost effective.

Maybe I'll order one soon. Thanks.
Supposedly getting a cd changer soon too. Do they make plugs to adapt an aftermarket unit to work with the stock radio?
Someone at work is supposed to get me one. One of the possibilities is an FM modulator one. That might be the easiest route.

Can't tell ya, mines all stock.

Like a fool I just spent $75.00 on a replacement mast from the dealer. Ididn't see them on ebay untill afterwards. I removed my complete antenna from the car and opened it up to get all the broken pieces out. also cleaned and re greased everything. it works good now.

Talk to mespock. I believe he hooked an aftermarket changer up to his w/ an FM modulator.

If you want no so great sound then, that is the way to go. The reason behind this is that you have to dial into a radio station to utilize the FM modulator system. So, you are basically playing a CD thru a FM radio station that does not exist......leaves a bit of sound quality out of the picture. If you ask me (been doing car stereo installs for close to 20 years now.....off/on) you are wasting your money. Might as well just go out and purchase some cassette tapes and play them. I apologize to anyone who has this setup, but you are losing out on sound quality. If all you want is to be able to play your CD's, then it is fine, but better to get a aftermarket CD headunit (also one with the option of adding a changer down the road.....if you want).

What I would do is just call up Max (1-800-866-1520 ext. 236) and see what price you can get on a whole antenna assembly, or find one on ebay. The reason behind this is the motor in the assembly has not been operating correctly and will most likely burn out sooner than you would think, or hope. The reason I am saying this is because it happened to me a LOOOOOOOOOOOONG time ago on my first Mark VIII. I purchased a mast off of ebay, put it in (took the old one apart and cleaned/greased it), and within a few months the motor just stopped working. Now, I am not saying that this will happen to you, but just something to be aware of. :D

I bought a few

I have now bought two of the replacement masts off of e-bay and have had no problems with either. The only reason for the second one, was that the damn car wash attendant hit the power switch on the radio and put the antenna back up before tha car went through. I do agree with 1wykdmk8 that if you can spare the change, go with a whole new assembly. I was just trying to take the easy way out.

As far as FM modulated CD players go, don't do it. It is very rare these days to have empty FM bands that do not get bleed from neighboring stations. The sound quality is almost always bad, and the interference is usually at the very high end of unacceptable. I was able to get a 10 disc with a plugin harness from my local stereo shop for a little over $200.00. Works great. It is an Audiovox model.

I have a JVC 12 disc changer that I used to replace my changer that took a crapper. Paid like $30 on ebay. It uses the FM mod. You do loose some quality of sound but not much. I had a Pioneer in my Mark VII which was much worse.

I am looking for a JVC in-dash unit to replace th kenwood I have. The changer will work with JVC in-dash unit.

This guy I know has 3, 1 is the FM type. He is not sure of the brands. If one would plug right in, even if it needed an adaptor that would be great.
My stock cd changer works until you hit a bump, then you get a no disc error.
