Antenna on the rear window?

I recently got the windows tinted and after they did it I noticed that they had relocated the antenna that was on the rear window into pieces on the back seat. Does the antenna even have a purpose since i haven't noticed anything except maybe a weaker radio signal(But isnt our radio antenna in the glass?) It doesn't even appear to be wired to anything.

Pieces? I cannot picture how anyone would get the antenna to remove from the glass, but I have never tried it, either. To boost my signal on my '98, I split the lead to the head and ran it to a conventional antenna I hid at the back top area of the trunk just under the package tray.

That antenna was just for the cell phone
Looks better without it anyways.
