so me and my dad are gun shopping, for pistols, and although i'd really like to shoot the new smith and wesson magnum 500, i dont really need to blow crators in anything so i have been eye balling the Glock 21 .45
i wont be buying it new, i'll buy a used gun for now but i wanted to know if anyone owns a 21 besides most of the cops on the planet!!

Guns are like women. What fits one guy, won't fit another.

Get a firearm that fits YOUR hands.

What do you plan on using this firearm for? Self defense? Just weekend shooting? Mass murders? (Ok, you'd better not)

Glock is a good brand (though I hate it). I'm an FN nuthugger, but I have my reasons for that. Look into H&K pistols as well.

If you want a "cheap" .45, get yourself a 1911. They will range from 300 all the way up to 2500+.

Jamie, here's my answer in one sentence.

Buy "Boston's Gun Bible" from amazon.com.

The end.

Funny, after your last thread about wanting a gun, I felt motivated!

Bought an air rifle!

Guess I gotta start somewhere!

Good luck with the purchase! Shoot often!

I hate Glocks..they are the Honda of guns.....I buy H & K or same quality guns. If you want dead accuracy get a 1911, They have great brands (Even the Kimber brand has them for 600 bucks new) and the parts are cheap...almost 3bucks per magazine in some places.

Best thing is getting a powerful but accurate gun you like, a plinger, then some rifles.

My father bought the Smith & Wesson 460 Magnum and the bullets are cheap (24bucks for a box of 20) has the highest velocity bullets on the consumer market for a handgun and it has 1/4 the recoil of a 500 though almost as much power. You get get the magnum for about 700-1200 determines where you go :p

I have a turus 24/7 Pro .45

Great gun, good price. Ive put about 5000 rounds through it with no problems. Not one jam.

Frog's advice is the best--try it before you buy. I'm not exactly the biggest fan Combat Tupperware ever had, and I detest .40 Short&Wimpy (10mm FTW), but I was going to buy a G27 (the subcompact .40) until I fired one. That is, without question, the most singularly uncomfortable firearm it has ever been my displeasure to discharge. In general, Glocks do not fit my hand well (SIG and Beretta FTW on that one), but that was the worst of the lot for me.

Typically, "large" caliber sub-compacts are uncomfortable to shoot due to the light weight of the firearm and the short barrel. Both of those factors combined result in severely felt recoil.

One thing that can be done is to have the firearm ported. I always use a company named Magnaport. I typically see a felt reduction in recoil after the firearm has been ported.

Magnaporting probably would have helped the recoil, but my point was that I did not like the pistol after I fired it (aside from being uncomfortable to shoot, it had too much bark for not enough bite). If I hadn't fired it before I was going to buy it, I would have purchased a pistol I disliked shooting, and there are too many firearms out there to be stuck with one you don't want.

like was mentioned earlier, get something that fits good in your hand and that you are comfortable shooting. I have a glock 27 .40 that I carry with me everyday and I don't have any complaints with it.

I personally like the .357 sig round for the penetration. .40 and 9mm are just for wounding people. When I looked at them I wanted some thing compact that would go thru 2 car doors. Cause if i get jacked I'm gonna have a lot of holes in the side of the lincoln from me.
