Anyone have access to Spark Plug Boots?

Anyone have access to Spark Plug Boots at a reasonable price? Max says FORD raised prices at the end of the year. the boots went from like,$6.51 to over $13 each. I have tried the auto supplies near me and none have them. Standard is suppose to make after market? No one seems to have them? That's over a $100 for 8 boots?
Part number at FORD is F7LZ-12A402-AA BOOTS

93 to 96 models do. 97 and 98s don't have wires. Each plug has a coil and there is a rubber boot about 6 inches long between each coil and spark plug. That's just one of the differences between a 1st and 2nd generation Mark VIII.

Actually the shaft of the boot is a little different than OEM. The OEM has three raised rings around it where as the Standard brand says FORD on them but only have one ring or raised area around the boot. I assume to keep oil from getting down into the top of the plug.

It is the same one you would get directly from Ford. The boots were redesigned.

Why would you have oil there in the first place ?

If you do, the tower seals are bad.

Explain "tower seals" please and how hard to fix?
I had a little oil on a couple of the boots and it was quite thick. Wasn't black,brown. Also both cylinders nearest the firewall has some rust in there when I went to remove the plugs.
 
Tower seals are like little rings that go around the base of the spark plug hole in the valve cover.

You see, since you have a DOHC(dual over-head cam) engine, the spark plugs have to reach down, inside a tunnel, or "tower", past the cams, to the cumbustion chamber. The spark plug holes in your valve cover actually tunnel through oil passages, and splashing oil, to get to the head.

The "tower seals" are designed to keep any oil thats sloshing around in the valvetrain from entering the "tunnel" or "tower" and reaching the spark plug/coil boot.

The only way to fix them is to remove the valve cover, flip it upside down, and install(epoxy) new seals on the towers.

Okay thanks. Any idea on the rust in the two back towers nearest the firewall?
 
Just bought them saturday at the Lincoln dealer. Retailed for $15.00 each. I work at a dealer so I got at wholesale and that was still $13.04 These are Lincoln parts and had only one ring it is the new design.

The two back cylinders tend to store condensation. It is typical for #4 and #8 to have trace amounts of rust-colored stains on the boots. I think it is from any moisture tghat may seep past the coil covers.

Honestly, I dont even think its rust, since the heads/block are aluminum. But I never performed a chemical test...I just cleaned, and re-greased them, and re-inserted them.

I have 7 "used" but in good condition boots, but like Jeremi said, it isnt worth the freight to sell them.

I am glad I kept a full set of spares since I was able to use them to fix a new freind's car a couple of weekends ago. Turns out, I needed 2 of mine to replace two of his.

I couldn't find them on that site. When you pull down ignition for the gen 2 it says we have wires, and there isn't any boot mentioned. Any help is appreciated....even more so if they are really only 25 bucks. (checked under cobra also....same thing...shows wires)

GMS is selling aftermarket COP 4V connecter kits now that come with the "wires" and boots for the 2nd Gen Mark VIII's.

Another great thread reminding me of what an excellent purchase my Mark VIII was. Support is EVERYTHING on enjoying an older car. Bravo.
 
They are on backorder right now, I'm still waiting on mine that I got from MD.
 
there is a nice set of coils and boots on ebay right now, only up to 30 bucks at the moment.
