I saw on one of the mark VIII boards that a guy has a muffler in place of the resonator and 2 straight pipes coming out instead of mufflers. What would be the advantages and disadvantages of that system?

doesn't sound like it makes sense. It cuts you down to a single exhaust at the muffler.

poeple are using the i think dynomax or magnflow dual in dual out w/ a internal xpipe mounted midbody and some are using muffler @ the rear for the drone..... try again geno... there are new muffler out there now.

Try what again? I know about this x muffler and thats what we tried. Why are you so SMART with me all the time on here?

WELL :q:q:q:qING excuse me. i did not know you used that muffler

Why are you being so hostile? I just asked a simple question about why you are so smart with me on here. In many threads you have been VERY smart with me, I am not the only one that noticed either, and I just asked a question and you flip out and curse?

Sorry to but in here but when doing an exhaust for the Mark's is a X pipe or H pipe better for these cars?
I read a magazine article recently (Car Craft, MM & FF?, not sure) and they did dyno runs with an x-pipe and an h-pipe on a stang. The x-pipe gave a little more horse and torque.

This set up brings the torque curve on even eairlier then the single X by itself, and the torque peak comes in in at a lower 250 rpm's. its more torque without sacrificing flow, and the sound, OH THE EXOTIC SOUND!!!!

Does anyone have a sound clip of the Twin X pipe?

That "sound only' sounded very raspy...but then again...computer speakers are no way to reveal the true sound quality of an exhaust system. So dont let that fool you, folks.

You guys need to understand...the Mark VIII(for some odd reason) reacts to different exhaust systems differently than just about any car on the road.

I have driven in at least 15 different Mark VIII's. And by driven in, I mean DROVE THE SNOT OUT OF. many of them had different exhaust configurations. One conclusion I have reached is that unless a car is well-tuned and its engine is running at its optimum performance level, and exhaust changes, be it major, or minor, will not give you an accurate response.

The best exhaust system I have driven on a Mark VIII so far, was in fact a removed third cat, dual in/out muffler inplace of the third cat, and straight pipe all the way back to reactive tips(for sound). The car had the best initial throttle response, more "in the seat" performance throughout the RPM range, and it had the best sound at WOT above 3500 rpms.

Just bear in mind folks...what some perceive as "sounds exotic" or "has a nice, deep, rich tone" might sound like a drowning turtle to the rest of us.

Choosing exhaust is a tough thing to do because unfortunately, you have to choose your product before actually hearing it in person. And often times, until the welds have cooled, you have no idea how it is going to sound.

many muffler shops out there will hold a muffler up to the car for you, and let you hear the engine running, revving, both in and outside the car.

This is how I chose my exhaust system. I am in tree-hugger's capitol of the world, California, where if you have bad breath, they slap an emissions fine on you, so our choices are very limited. I kept it simple. I let them hold the flowmasters up to my exhaust pipe, after removing the stock boat anchors. I liked the sound during the rpm downslope, but the drone at 1800 was awful. Then I heard the magnaflows...a bit too quiet for me, but inside the car was nice.

I removed the resonator, installed 2 magnaflows(2 1/2" in/out incase of future upgrades), and some cusomt tips to mock the original(94, no bumper cut outs).

Although I'd like to "advertise" a bit more when I whomp the throttle, the sound is actually very nice. no drone, mellow, rich, deep exhaust tone, zero loss of power(zero gain as well), but i have a 94. The LSC "dual" wasnt available, not did i invest the money for what I feel is a un-noticeable improvement" when i am still stuck with 3 cats, and smog laws.

Good luck deciding what you want....at least you have others here to help give you clips, feedback, and most of all experienced answers.

The sound off the Video is better... In Neutral you really don't get the full sound
When the exhaust has load on it... It has a very exotic, deep V8 growl, but then
when OD kicks in it smooths. Unfortunately we there is just a piece of this sound on the clip. A neighbor of Geno's did not believe it was a Mark VIII driving up the street... Said it sounded like a Ferrari. That's something coming from a guy who has probably heard many cars flying buy in high RPMs past their house... LOL

Yes James that was Brian!! We flew by his house at 85 mph full throttle, when we got back to the house he called me immediately and asked "What in the holyhell was that?" LMAO!!

He was in such dis-belief he came down to see and hear the car in person.

Also this sound is the farthest thing from "raspy" I have ever heard, must be the recording for sure.

i have a recording studio and i just listened to the video of the mufflers again on my studio monitors, they sound insane. very very exotic, I know what I am putting on my car this spring.

None at all. We tried this too back in 97 and LOST power.

When you say LOST, could you elaborate? This is the exhaust I was planning on getting for my 94. Using the internal X pipe Magnaflow, 2 1/2" all the way back... By lost, was this from a stock setup? a base or LSC setup? or from your setup?

Thanks a lot...

We used 2.5 inch piping into the x muffler, then into our mufflers. We replaced the x muffler with a twin xx and picked up power. Plus the sound is second to none, drone free too.

Like I said...computer speakers SUCK for relaying actual sound. I bet even a violin would sound raspy on a computer.

I'd love to hear your exhaust in person. I dont doubt you for a second.

But like I said, purchasing exhaust is always a gamble. What sounds good to someone, might sound horrible to someone else. It's a matter of opinion. And the only problem is, you dont know until they are done welding it on! You dont have any free samples, now do you? ;)

California's new "smog-III" is taking affect in 2008. This will require all cars to use factory catalytic converters. No aftermarket parts, no removal of, or modification to...so only a "cat-back" is going to be available.(man, this state sucks if you love horsepower)

anyway, dont think for a second I doubted your exhaust Geno...I know you have many happy customers! :)
