i used to be into rc trucks and cars back in the 80's early 90's, vintage stuff to todays standards, tamiya black foot, monster beetle, midnight pumpkin, those types of trucks, i had an old bolink electric pan car that was raced on indoor carpet tracks, then in the 90's i got into nitro trucks, i had 2 traxxas T-MAXX's trucks those were a blast but way to much money to keep them going, so i got out of it. well i got back into electric recently, but todays stuff destroys the stuff of 20 years ago. i never imagined electric could be what it is today, all this lipo battery, brushless motors, its insane. my buddy matt at the shop picked up an HPI Blitz 1:10 scale short course truck and i have a Team Associated 1:10 SC-10. the electric's are so fast out of the box, track ready and drive like animals. they are like the real deal, billet bodied oil filled shocks, mine has a reedy modified 17 turn brush motor with adjustable timing, his is a castle brushless with a 4800 milli amp LiPo battery. supprisingly his truck is only faster in the long run, roughly after 200 feet or so will it pull on mine, on the track its a dead even race, only the better driver will win and i have way more years experience with rc trucks. even after so many years of not owning them i never lost my touch i forgot how much fun they are, these two trucks are 45 mph trucks out of the box, they fly. they dont weigh anything either about as heavy as 2 cans of soda if that. this is what i like to do when i have spare time, which isnt often but now that the weather is cooling down we will be racing at B&B Hobbies in hudson fl every 1st and 3rd saturday night of the month on their outdoor track. it gets crazy there and they have nitro classes too, some of the rc vehicles that show up are purely insane! its a lot of fun and the electric are cheap to keep going, these short course trucks need nearly nothing to keep em going, batteries thats all. i run a 7 cell venom hump back 4200 milli amp pack in mine and i get roughly 40 minutes of full out run time, it stays fast to the last 2 minutes of charge it doesnt slowly die down, its all then nothing! just thought i'd show everyone what i like to do when i have the time, its such a blast and stress reliever for me! mine is the all black truck, matt's is the black and silver truck, they look small in the pics but they are pretty big trucks.

Yes Jamie, the newer RC crap is amazing! Here is some important tips before I share my stories:
DONT KEEP RUNNING THE LIPOS TO LVC (Low Voltage Cutoff) cause they will die very very fast. You need to time your runs with these batteries and as soon as she slows down you stop running it. I dont mean a small difference in punch but when you can see its lost some power while accelerating.
Let the battery cool down for almost an hour before recharging or it can puff.
A balance charger is a MUST!
Hobby King is by far the best deals for batteries. I have many Tenergy batteries from them and they are by far the best battery I have used except for the uber high dollar stuff. The Tenergys are very cheap and last long. Their iMax chargers are cheap too and a great balenced one will run around $65. I assume you have a 3s 4200 LiPo pack. Look at what the C rating is. The C times the capacity is what the battery can discharge at. The higher C batteries not only last longer but the power difference is killer. If you have 20c batteries now then step up to a 30c version and you will be amazed!

Ive had RC stuff for s long as I can remember. Started with cars and prohressed to boats. I had 18 different boats at one point. Had 28" long MsBudwiser and ms. Circus Circus hydros running 10t 45k rpm motors and those things would do 58 mph. Now thats nothing compared to what these new brushless motors can do. Dont have to gear down and can use larger props.

Then I got into airplanes last year cause the brushless setups allowed for better electric airplanes. I got a Parkzone P-51D with a 38" wingspan. Plane would do 45mph out of the box but the speed bug bit and I bought a super high torque 1450kv brushless outrunner and a hot 60amp ESC and some speed props. I got that plane to just over 125 mph when it ripped its tail feathers off and went into a straight down dive doing over 130 and buaried its styrafoam nose 6" into the hard ground. Guys have now hit 165mph with that foam plane but they have modded the tail to hold those speeds....... just dont bank!

There are brushless RC cars on You Tube hitting over 120mph and they are just little 16" long cars! Just amazing what the new stuff does. :)

he runs lipo bill not me, i have a nicad 4200 7 cell i can run mine down to nothing. my truck is brushless ready but after seeing how my truck hangs with matts i didnt plan on doing any converting to mine i am keeping it brushed and standard nicad pack there is no reason to change a good set up. he has a balanced charger for his truck. i have seen the triple digit electric vehicles on youtube its just crazy. there is a video with a brushless rc car on a real quarter mile track, looks like something that resembles a bonneville salt flat car, that hits 161 mph on a god dam electric motor and batteries, thats retarded, well hell, watch it for yourself!

YouTube - Another look at the Worlds Fastest R/C Car 161.76mph @ ISC e

Nice trucks. I've got a Traxxas Slash 2WD with a brushless Novatech Assassin c36 and love it. I also run the 2 cell hard case LiPos from Hobby King. I've put quite a bit of money into RPM parts and extra bodies, but it's worth it since it's so much fun.

we went to the local track today to run them. it was my first time ever playing with an rc vehicle on a track and my god its awesome. so many people down there with all kinds of cars and trucks, even my wife took it around the track a few times, although she needs serious practice lol. my kids had a blast. i'll upload pics and video's after dinner, we just got home.

some pics from the track today. my truck.

Look like fun Jamie.
Not much track around houston to run my car and truck.

I got one Nascar Mark VIII pan car (Needs Parts), SRT-8 Charger 4 wheel drive and an Traxxas Revo with an 3.3 engine.

This car hits around 40 mph with the brushless motor.
I spent about $500 on this one.

I used to have a couple of stadium trucks, Traxxas rustler nitro, electric bone stock 4tec (plastic POS, god forbid you hit a crack, a mm crack turned the car into shrapnel). Best truck I ever owned was a Associated RC10 nitro (its been over 10 years, so I may be a little off on the exact model). That thing could take a beating. The brake was its only downfall, it was a bad design and it would crack. I could flip it, jump it, hop it, bop it, whatever it would just keep on going, and it would start immediately too, not like the traxxas. Fun hobby, but then I got a real car, and both hobbies are too expensive.

I have a Assosiated GT10 nitro Stadium Truck that I've had for like 5 years. I recently got back into the stuff.

I just got an Axial SCX10 which is a scale rock crawler / trail truck. Very fun! I wasn't happy with the stock speed, so I changed the pinnion gear from 20t to a 25t and now it goes nice. Right now I'm running a 3000mah and 5000mah Nihm. I have a couple 5000mah LiPo's on the way and already have a Balance charger.

It has actual frame rails, locked differentials, beadlock wheels, and I made some fender liners for it.

Its a fun hobby, cheaper than the real deal, but I don't think its cheap lol.
