you can pull this "chip"out and it says "theft lock"

The wiring looks aftermarket "not a dealer ad on". The truck is bone stock (remotes and all). It does have onstar, but thats factory...
two wires continue through the firewall (not well done) and run toward the front of the block into the main harness. I didnt want /have time to dig to far into it.

Id assume some type of aftermarket alarm at one point. Just curious if anyone recognizes it.

Looks like a GPS tracking unit or a vehicle-disabling unit, where you pull that black out and the car won't start. The "brand name" version of that system is... Revelco I think?

I'm not saying it's a knock off Ravelco, but that's what it looks like. Does the "chip" have pins? The Ravelco has a keyed 20+ pin plug that just jumps one pin to another to complete the circuits such as fuel pump relay, ignition fuse, injector fuses, etc. Each key/plug is unique

It was an 8 pin "plug"... i didnt want to mess with it too much... last thing i wanted was a dead car in my garage

if I was a betting man, My money would be on it not starting...

however those devices are usually tied into some other wires NOT at the diagnostic port...

is it tapped into the purple wire in pin 2?

if so thats the main single wire CAN for those GMs, it can pretty much control everything from there so I guess it probably could keep the car from starting/running

i'll take a look next time im at it... it has some service work being done at the dealer soon, so they were going to have them look at it too. I'll let you know what they say ( if anything)

The "cartridge" part doesn't look user friendly to pull out. And the screws used for mounting, yikes. I know nobody likes to be cramped up with their back over a door sill but still...
